With the election just around the corner and all the recent talk about terrorist attacks happening, it has made me a bit uneasy to be going to DL next week. My husband wants to cancel our trip as a matter of fact. I know that Disneyland was in a video at one point, as was Las Vegas. But of course there is nothing concrete as to when or where the next attack will happen. I believe there will be one. Anyone else have this fear in their mind, even more now with the election next week?

Relax, people are doing thier jobs seriously. Have a good time and forget about the outside world as there are very capable people in Anaheim making sure the neighborhood is safe, and little elves (CMs) in the park seeing to it that you have a fun time experiencing Entertainment made in the U.S. of A.

Hope to see you there E-day. I'll be the chubby guy holding hands with the blonde and I'll say "Hi" 'glad we all made it' to Disneyland. I am waiting for the GF to get home now so we can drive the 400 miles to the gate. err my hearts about to burst can't wait any longer need to see that Hollywood sign before Friday night.

P.S. I just dropped off my absentee vote yesterday and I am ready to have fun now.... any moment..... well she's not here yet..... hmm......lets go already just sitting here makes me think I have to go back to work next week....hmm not here yet... Yikes lets go already...

Absolutely not.
I spend more time thinking about the price of tea in China than some terrorist attack.
Do not live in fear.

i dont worry about terrorist attacks. disneyland has very strict security and the probability of having an attack is pretty limited. We cant go around worrying about attacks all the time, thats what the terrorists want, right?

Well, to provide a bit of empathy to your post, I have definitely thought of this. I don't go around wringing my hands worrying about terrorism, but I'm also not living in denial regarding the real threats that face our country. As seen in the Russian school situation, there seems to be no limits to what these people might do. To me, DL represents some of the best things America has to offer - freedom, fun and family. The place is also filled with tons of people in a relatively small area.

All that being said, I will continue to visit the park when I want and not let the threats of terrorists impede my life or freedom to enjoy our great country...and visit the Mouse whenever I want.

I hate to put a morbid spin on this but here goes.....IF and I mean IF a terror attack came I would certainly rather be in DL or WDW. At least I would be enjoying my last minutes on earth.

Don't cancel your trip. Go and have a wonderful time! Don't live your life with so much fear that you can't go to DL and enjoy yourself. You will have a wonderful time, and when your trip is over, you'll say to yourself, "whew, I'm so glad we went!" Hope we get a trip report when you return. :)

Not to be morbid but you're more likely to be kill in a car accident on the freeway on the way to Disneyland than a terrorist attack.

Just have fun at the park. Like others said you can't live your life in fear.

Believe it or not, Disneyland isnt that important on the list. It isnt important to them because they are not addicts like us. There are way more important targets for them like LAX and places like that.

No this is crazy thinking.

Terrorism only works by terrorising people. ie - Making them too scared to go and do the things they want to do.

There are numerous targets around the world, trains, buses, airports, parilament buildings, offices etc etc - Disneyland is no more a target than any other (I would actually think less of a one).

You have to live life to the full, not live it in fear of something that statistically one of the least things you need to worry about. (Live in fear of crossing a road or driving a car - much more likely to get ya ;) )

No.

It crossed my mind when I was in the airport and I heard the announcement about not leaving bags unattended and it crossed my mind again when I was in DL and saw security guards with dogs.

But I do not feel that there is any imminent danger at DL right now, so try not to think about terrorism and just have fun while you're there.

P.S. My sister and her family were in DL on 9/11 and they closed down DTD and both parks. I think they would do the same again if they thought there was a real threat that very day.

I think for most people it has 'crossed' their minds......but by NO MEANS would I let that deter me from going to DLR. NO WAY!

....on a side note.... I had to fly from SFO to Boston on an incentive trip I earned exactly ONE MONTH after 9/11 - i was nervous at first, but would have been mad at myself if I choose not to go, then everyone came back and shared the GREAT TIME they had!

And guess what.........I'm here today!

Go to DLR and ENJOY yourself!

I have a very good friend that happened to be at WDW during 9/11. She said that when they decided to close the park for the day, everything literally just STOPPED. They happened to be in the middle of riding Splash Mountain, when everything came to a standstill. Immediately the voices came on that told them to stay in their seats until they were escorted off the ride. She said one lady panicked and started to stand up and try to get off the ride, and immediately over the loud speakers were the words, over and over, "Ma'am sit back down in your seat!!!" She said they were all eventually taken off the ride. I wondered if it wouldn't have been easier to just not load anyone onto the ride, and let those that were on it finish the ride, instead of stopping it so abruptly and making everyone do an emergency exit. :)

Stay away from DL and do exactly what the terrorists want. How can people live their lives in such fear? Do you fear to drive because statistic show that people are killed within 5 miles of their homes. Do you use electricity? You could die by being electricuted. Live your life to the fullest! Don't live in fear.

A big part of terrorism is psychological. They WANT you to be afraid. If you stop doing things you would normally do because of fear you are letting them win.

Go to Disneyland. Have a great time! ( I am flying to Disney World next week and I intend to do just that!)

Exactly, if you dont go then you are automatically making them the winner.

Idaho is a prime terrorist target, because that's where you'd LEAST suspect it.
Now that I've said it, though, everyone knows, and now it's back off the list.

Hmm, now that I've said THAT....

No, I am not. With the elections around the corner some politicians use fear as tactic to get their pointless points across ;)

Have a good time and enjoy your trip.

Mommyto2boys, what do you mean when you say "I know Disneyland was in a video at one point, as was Las Vegas"? There are thousands of video cameras shooting footage inside all of the Disney parks every day. Did you mean something like:" terrorists where apprehended and it was discovered that they had in their possesion, extensive video footage of the parks, along with detailed plans of park structures, and plans for a large scale assault, along with a cache of weapons"? Is that what you meant? I think something like that might have happened.
By the way, I agree with everyone else here. Live your life. That doesn't mean "be stupid and don't wear a seat belt", it means, don't let the terrorists win. Also, I don't see a connection between the elections and Disney parks.

If we modify our normal behavior out of fear of terrorism, terrorism will have succeeded.

What's surprising to me is that people seem to be under the impression that terrorism was never an issue before 9/11, 2001. Maybe it's because I'm getting to be old-timer, but I recall a few incidents growing up.

- When I lived in Garden Grove, the woman who lived directly accross the street worked for Pan Am (everybody called her "Jet"). She was working at LAX when a bomb went off very close to her.

- I seem to remember the Officer's Club at the Washington Navy Yard being bombed.

- When I was in the Navy, an airliner was hijacked and one of my fellow sailors was shot and thrown onto the tarmac.

- There was the Achille Laro (sp) incident (although, this was outside the U.S)

I don't recall anyone being afraid to go Disneyland back then. So there's a new band of well-funded suicidal clowns bent on world domination. The only thing I fear is people who think it's our fault when terrorists hate us.

I refuse to let the terror mongering of some radical group run my life. And I'm not just talking about GWB, Rummy, Cheney and Ashcroft.

FDR said it best: The only thing we have to fear is fear itself. Well, that and another flawed election of a person who so inflames the rest of the world that they try even harder to attack.

Not that I'm biased or anything. :-)
