WOW! Those are some really nice pictures. Its good to see how it used to be. Just another reminder that stuff comes and goes all the time and to take as many picturs as you can so you can look at them years from now and just remember all the good times.

Totally awesome pics.

I love seeing what things looked like way back when.

I never knew they had "real" mermaids in the lagoon.

I miss the Swiss Family Robinson treehouse SO much!!

Got any more pics like that? :D

A couple of comments:
1. THat little kid with the bandaged knee: probably from playing on TSI. No sign of his lawyer anywhere.
2. The castle doesn't look nearly as nice as it does, say, today. Maybe the film is poorly transferred.
3. I've never seen that entrance to Disneyland, so close to the monorail.
4. What's up with that hippo's tusks?

Thats wierd how the castle doesnt have as much color as I thought it would back then. And did you see this scary rabbit? http://theimaginaryworld.com/dtour21.html

This is great. I think the thing I miss most is the old sign. I still remember seeing it for the first time when I was a kid and how excited I was.

The mermaids are great!

Oh my gosh ! There used to be real mermaids in the sub lagoon? How long did that last?

Thank you Darkbeer! What a trip! I remember riding in the back of a station wagon under the Disneyland sign, was that really 40 years ago...

About the mermaids - I might have read about it here, the mermaids leaving the lagoon because of severe sunburn and irritation from chlorine in the water. If this were the case, would it be possible to install some shading themed to seaweed or something? And maybe some sort of motorized raft to transport them to and from the rocks. :p Wishful thinking in terms of expenditure, but the mermaids seemed to be a nice touch in that area and it would be cute for the little kids to wave to them out there. Maybe even ask if they'd seen Ariel.

I loved the slide show. I, too, didn't realize there were mermaids in the lagoon. Thanks for sharing. :)

That was great! I loved the banner across Main st. for the "World Premier of Walt Disney's Enchanted Tiki Room". Also, Count Basie playing at Disneyland!!! How cool is that :)

The cool Disneyland marquee needs to come back - by the freeway maybe. Such a great sign! Cool design.

Those could have been pictures of my first visit. The first photo of the cars entering the park showed a car exactly like we had when we went. I didn't wear a dress to the park though, I remember wearing capris and that they were green. It's funny how things stick in your mind, I guess the trip was important to me.
