I've just had XP shoved down my throat. Definitely not by choice.

For some reason, if I double-click on a drive icon, it defaults to SEARCH, instead of OPEN.

Can anybody explain how to fix this?

Click "Win XP fixes" in the menu on the left.

folder_open.vbs- Fixes the problem where Search or Command Prompt opens when double clicking a folder
© Doug Knox - rev 02/09/2002

Occasionally the Registry entry for File Folders (Directories) gets corrupted. One effect of this can be that Search or a Command Prompt opens when you double click on a folder in Explorer, rather than the folder opening. This VB Script will make the necessary change to the system Registry to correct this.

Usage: Download folder_open.vbs and save this file to your hard drive. Navigate to where you saved it and double click the file. A confirmation dialog will appear when finished. This script can be viewed in Notepad or any text editor, as to the specific Registry key and value that are updated.

The baove comes from the help page.

Hope this helps.

Bob

You had ME, and all was well.
You upgraded to Windows XP, and now there are no CD/DVD drive icons in My Computer
(I don't know what programs you might have downloaded...?)

Based on what I read here:
http://home.earthlink.net/~lreynol929/ruXP/ContPanl/MISSING.HTM
and here:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;314060

you might try following the instructions here:

I tried the www.dougknox.com (http://www.dougknox.com) program and it didn't do anything. Any other suggestions?
