Considering the London-Paris trip this spring - what's the best way to get from London to Paris?

Have heard:

1. Simply go by train
2. Drive (via Chunnel)
3. Drive (via hovercraft or ferry)

What do you local guys do? What's the best way cost-wise?

My past experience with London is to take the underground most of the time and then pay the cabbies (in some cases a great E-ticket attraction themselves) for occasional forays above ground

We are going from Stansted Airport (near Cambridge) to Paris thanks to the recommendation of some experienced travelers here on the board. The flights are very reasonable and it's much faster than going by train--we have a very limited time to make the side trip and need to get there and be done with it.

Perhaps other will chime in...in English ;)

ps. there is a thread here in the DLP section that discusses this question in more depth. I'm too lazy to link it for you but check back and you will find it.

I think the matter of travel depends on the amount of time you have to spend at DLP.
I have never driven (I live just outside of London) I do quite fancy the idea of diving and spending a week at Davy Crocket Ranch, I wouldnt concider this option for a short break though.
Getting the train is the easiest way of getting there. The station is right outside the park and you can have your luggage taken to your room for you if you get the direct service and check in on the train. The main drawback though is the amount of time it CAN take. The last time I caught the train it left Waterloo 30 mins late, then stopped for an hour outside of Ashford station,we ended up getting in the park at around 3pm, if you are on a short break thats a lot of time out of your vacation time.
My favourite way of getting there is to get an early as possible flight. For a bargain you cannot beat Buzz who fly from Stansted to CGD.
Last time we flew we got a flight at 6-30 am for £60 rtn each. You can catch a bus from right outside the terminal doors that will take you direct to either the park or your hotel, last time we used this option we were in the park at approx 10-30am after dumping our luggage etc at our hotel.

The easiest way is the Eurostar, although I found it to be terribly overpriced, and the seats to be uncomfortable. The train also travels very slowly on the English side, although it does fly through the tunnel and France.

Although Eurostar is expensive, you may be able to get a good deal by looking around in the newspapers. I saw a Eurostar, Paris, DLP/Hotel package for under £100 for three days. Considering a student ticket on the Eurostar costs £70, and that was only to Paris, it's not a bad deal at all.

Outside of the Eurostar, ferry/car will probably be the cheapest option, although I'm not sure how long the drive is from the ferry to DLP. A cheap flight to Charles De Gaulle is also a good option, as I believe you can get a train to Paris from there and easily transfer onto the RER(?) for DLP.

Personally, I'd just look for a cheap, all-in-one package if it's an option.

Are you going before or after March 20th? We will be there in early March and will check out how the flight thing works and post about it.

Lisa,
I just found out when my daughter's mid semester break is in March. We are looking into booking our trip to Paris then. How early in March are you going?

ummm...I think we are going to be there March 11th and 12th or 12th and 13th. Eandc will clarify. I have a trip itinerary somewhere.
We have not booked a hotel yet but are prob going with the Sequoia. DLP will send you a very nice brochure with all the hotels and packages listed if you give your address at the site.

Cool, I just might do that. But, we will probably stay acutally in Paris (33 minutes on the metro to DLP). My daughter obviously will be there. Her break is March 15-24.

This is a bummer for us...because we will be there on March 18 and 19th. I hope everyone goes into the new park. I've seen MGM at WDW, and really have no desire to see this one...now DLParis, that is my goal while we are over there.

And we plan on taking the train over. Even if its slow...that's how its going to be. My husband mentioned renting a car. I put a stop to that right off the bat. He scares me here while driving on the left...if its opposite, I'd have a coronary!

Well, I decided I didn't want to rush in from London....be stuck on a train...handle baggage, and rush into DLP. So, I booked a room in Paris, we'll stay the day there, spend the night and get a good nights rest, then trek onto DLP the next day. Then we are staying there at DLP, again, get a good night's sleep, then trek back into Paris for the day...
then we can haul our tired bodies back into jolly ol' London.

We'll be pooped, but happy, (at least I hope!)

That sounds good--then you won't feel as rushed, feeling you only have part of a day to enjoy DLP.

Yes, that is my whole point. I hate not getting into the park (Disneyland) late, I like to be there when it opens....and that's because I don't get to go all the time. I know that at DLParis if I don't get a full days worth, I'll be rather grouchy.
As you know, staying with Disney package, you get more than just one day. I'd like to go two, but I have a feeling my dear hubby and daughter might nix that. I'm hoping we'll play it by ear.

This is probably my one and only shot at DLParis...I want to make it last!

We booked a flight on Buzz Airlines from Stanstead to Paris. It was 160 pounds (about $230 US) round trip for two. We are on that 6:30am flight so the fact that we can get to the park by about 10:30 is excellent. It is open till 8. Then the next morning it opens at 10 and we will likely stay till about 6 or 7. Then we will go back to London. We are staying at the Newport and got the package that gives you hotel and two days of tickets (for 2) for $254 US.

As Steve Martin said when he used to make balloon animals and he poped two in a row. "Hey, this is getting expensive." We are really going to have to cram the fun down our throats.

To clarify on the price for London to Paris on Buzz Airlines. The ticket price is 60 pounds per person round trip. They add another 20 pounds per person in tax.

We are taking the Eurostar from London into Paris. Since we are staying in Paris the first night...we will go onto DLP the next day. Either on the RER or Euro...(we'll let our kid figure out which is the best...although they both go). After we spend our night at DLP...we are going back into Paris for another day and night.

Then...back onto cheery ol' London...

March 15-17 and then we go back March 21-23. The rest of the time will be in Paris and DLP.
