Some people liked it, but a whole lot of people really did not. Alex, I really liked that feature myself. I wanted to comment on how you held the 'election' for this feature in the administration forum. This is a forum that I have a feeling most people never check (I know I never did), so when the question was posed as to whether or not to keep it, I don't think you had a good cross-section of your audience. I myself didn't see the voting until it was over. Just my two cents. AVP 10-13-2004, 02:05 PM I myself didn't see the voting until it was over. Just my two cents.I'll take responsibility for the poll and the decision, since I was the most vocal moderator in favor of disabling it. We received a LOT of complaints, both on and off the board, that certain browsers coped with this feature in ways that made the boards almost impossible for people using those browsers to read. Instead of a delay between placing your mouse over the text and the box popping up, these members had the box pop up the second their mouse was anywhere near a link, which meant their screen was obscured with the mouseover text while they were trying to read the index pages. In the end, there were people who liked the feature, people who disliked it, and people who absolutely could not continue to participate if we retained it. It was in deference to that latter group, and the lack of overwhelming support for the feature, that caused us to disable it. We've asked vB to make this a user-enabled feature. If that happens, and members can choose to turn it on or off, we'll reinstate it. AVP kwlundy 10-14-2004, 10:54 AM AVP, That makes perfect sense. If it ever becomes available as a user-enabled feature, I would be the first to use it. I hope that works out. Thanks for the feedback! |
