Hi! We are looking at taking our 9 week old daughter to Disneyland at the end of this month. She has one of the Graco travel system strollers with the car seat that pops out. Does anyone know if we can take the car seat on some of the rides? I'm thinking along the lines of the Fantasyland dark rides, IASW, Storybook Land, Mark Twain, and HM. If not, would I be able to take her on the rides with her in a Snugli front pack?

If anyone has taken their young infants to DL, I'd appreciate some tips. We plan to be there for 2 weeks (DH has a conference) and I have been to DL many times, so we will be taking our time and not rushing around from ride to ride.

Thanks in advance.

I don't think I ever tried to take my car seat thing on the rides. I also don't think I ever have seen one on the rides. When I took my daughter at 8 weeks, I had her in the Baby Bjorn and was able to ride all of the rides with her snuggled in that. I loved taking my little ones to the park at that age just because we took the park so much slower and saw different things than we normally do. It was a good experience. Have a great time!

Yes, you can do that.. At least my husband did it with our daughter last month...

I don't think so... I have never seen anybody on a ride with their car seat.. We always just take our stroller and our Snugli... It seems like it would be a real pain to lug a car seat around.. :)

A car seat on a ride wouldn't work. For example, the dark rides and HM have lap bars and the car seat wouldn't fit behind the lap bars. Even if you're holding your baby on rides, the CMs will tell you that you have to be able to put the lap bar over the baby.

The carrier is a great option for rides. I love my Baby Bjorn. I didn't get to go on any rides this weekend when we were there for MouseAdventure but the Baby Bjorn makes it really easy to carry the baby around and was great on the parking lot tram, LOL.

The parking lot tram is a great reason to pack a baby in the Baby Bjorn. When we would just take a couple of hours to go to the park, lots of times we wouldn't even haul the stroller with us just because of the difficulty of the trams.

Thanks so much for the responses. I had thought of the lapbars on the dark rides later on and figured that it might be a problem with the carseat. I will make sure to pack the Snugli since that seems like the way to go.

Thanks again!

I was just going to suggest a baby sling or pouch like a New Native Carrier (http://www.newnativebaby.com/) or the like. Infants love them and they're so comfy for parents. Though if your Snugli is comfortable, then go for it!

When our son (who is now 11 months) was small enough to use one, we had a Graco travel system like that as well. His first visit to DLR was at 7 weeks.

The Disneyland Railroad, The Mark Twain, and The Columbia are exceptions to what everyone else has said about the rides not being able to accommodate the car seat. You should be able to use the car seat/infant carrier portion of the travel system on those rides without any problem. We also had no problems keeping the baby in the car seat/carrier on the parking lot tram. As others have noted, it isn't likely to be allowed or practical to use it for other rides. You should plan to use a snuggly or simply carry the baby.

One other thing to keep in mind is that a baby that young won't yet be able to use high-chairs in restaurants. Most of the non table-service restaurants in the parks were able to accommodate the baby in the stroller without too much difficulty. At most sit-down restaurants, though, you will likely need to keep the baby in the carrier and have them provide you with an extra chair or two to set it on. We generally found that most DLR restaurants were accommodating on this, although we did occasionally have to reject a table where the space was just too tight. On our first trip to Tortilla Jo's, for instance, they tried to seat our party at a booth where there simply would have been no place to put the infant carrier.

Overall, my main advice is to be very patient and expect to maintain a fairly slow pace during your visit. Going to the parks with a very young infant is actually a lot of fun, but it definitely is a challenge and can be pretty tiring.
