I am looking into purchasing a camcorder. We have a new baby on the way in February and my wide and I would like to capture the moment. Also, I would like to use the camcorder whenever we go to Disneyland.
Does anyone have a model preference? I have been researching them but there is so many models out now I just can't seem to start selecting a few that I like. Any help would be great.

First off, congrats on your expected new arrival!
I have a Sony TRV-350, which is a Digital8 Model. I love it and it is loaded with different features. It is a little larger than some DV and Micro-DV models out there but the best part was cost. A year and a half ago, it was only around $450. The tapes also tend to be cheaper. It also can be used as a digital camera, even though the pictures are only VGA quality. But you cannot beat the zoom and night shots with it. If cost is a consideration, this format is something to consider. Just like with any other digital format, I use the firewire (i-link) connection to my computer to digitally transfer the video to my computer for DVD creation. If I am right, Consumer Reports rated the TRV-350 a best buy back when it came out.
If I were to upgrade, I would look at the Sony DVD models that now offer megapixel capability. Just like a digital camera, the higher the resolution, the better the overall picture quality.
But the big thing is that you need to feel comfortable using the unit or you will not want to use it. So make sure you play around with the units at the store. Shop around. Also, ask your friends if they have one and what kind it is and ask them to borrow it for a few days to see what you like and dont like. I did this with a digital camera and was hooked afterwads. This is a large investment and you want to make sure that it is what you like. After all, we are talking about some once in a lifetime memories. :)

Congradulations! Is this your first baby? What a joy they are!
Get the new one that does DVDs you won't have to transfer them to tapes, and you can watch them right away on your dvd player, you can send them to others to view and so much easier. I wish I had one! They are pricey, but are coming down in price ( I saw one the other day for 799.00
Again congradulations!
