Forbes Magazine has announced its list of 400 wealthiest Americans. The spotlight is on those on the top, including Microsoft founder Bill Gates ($48 billion, up $2 billion from 2003), Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen ($20 billion), a sweep of positions four through eight by members of the Walton family (whose fortune, at approximately $18 billion each, comes from Wal-Mart ), Dell Computer Inc.'s Michael Dell ($14.2 bil) and Oracle Corp.'s Larry Ellison ($13.7 billion in holdings, a drop from $18 billion last year).
Tucked into the article, however, is the following little nugget:Fifty-four people dropped off the list from last year, including such notables as Disney's Michael Eisner, BET's Robert Johnson and Monster.com's Andrew McKelvey.
