View Full Version : Disney Expects to Hire New CEO by June
Niwel 09-21-2004, 02:42 PM Guess those letters really got to the board....
Yahoo news (http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=493&ncid=762&e=6&u=/ap/20040921/ap_en_mo/disney_eisner_successor)
The Walt Disney Co. said Tuesday it expects to hire a new chief executive by next June after a search that will include both inside and outside candidates to replace Michael Eisner, who is retiring in 2006.
Disney Vault 09-21-2004, 04:01 PM They will have a new CEO by June of 2005 but Eisner retires in 2006, so will there be two for a while or how does this work?
Mark Goldhaber 09-21-2004, 05:18 PM Hopefully, after the new CEO is chosen and transitioned in, Eisner will get the heave-ho.
Disney Vault 09-21-2004, 06:26 PM What month of 2006 does Eisners contract run up? How early would we be getting rid of him?
Mark Goldhaber 09-21-2004, 06:36 PM His contract is up on September 30, 2006. However, if they start the transition as soon as his successor is chosen (and the successor is indeed chosen by next June), he could be relieved of duty as early as next fall.
Disney Vault 09-21-2004, 07:08 PM I think you administrators should create a poll with the top contenders for the position of CEO so we can see how everyone else feels.
Pirate Girl 09-29-2004, 11:32 AM I vote for Steve Jobs or George Lucas. Ok, I was kidding on the George Lucas bit, but they need someone with good business sence and creativity. Is there anyone within the company with the experiance needed to handle a job of this magnitude? I'm not thinking the usual cronies, but a little lower on the ladder. CM Matt come to mind...although I don't know if he has the business sence for a job like CEO or if he would even want it. But someone like him...from themeparks or animation (such as it is)?

I was coming to this thread to post a wisecrack that I predict whoever is chosen will automatically get unearned blind devotion from people but I see you went ahead and proved my point.
Matt is cutting out Entertainment at Disneyland but he still gets a cute name and loyalty even though he hasn't proven anything.

sediment 09-29-2004, 02:54 PM Do you want a cute nickname, AK?

You missread my post:

Perhaps I wasn't very clear, but what I wanted to know was, is there anyone who is lower in the company that I'm not thinking of who would be good for the job.
As for CM Matt cutting entertainment: he can't do everything at once on the lame budget he has to work in.
sediment 09-29-2004, 04:15 PM No one will be jumping over Iger.
Selling ABC would get rid of Iger, but since he doesn't seem to be going anywhere, DIS is stuck with losing all that money, and other divisions will not be allowed to use their profits to improve their own businesses for another few years.
Meanwhile, all you stockholders out there prepare to get your stock dividend.
Mark Goldhaber 09-29-2004, 09:28 PM Well, since the Board's statement says that they will
Consider both internal and external candidates. Bob Iger is the one internal candidate.
I kind of think that we can take that to mean that there will be no other internal candidates.
Disneyphile 10-05-2004, 01:07 PM I just love the thought of getting rid of Eisner sooner. :D Looks like I'll have to speed up those party plans and start working on that effigy for burning. :~D
