View Full Version : Funny Typo in today's Disneyland column
blusilva 09-20-2004, 08:24 AM encouraged by main entrance cast members to renew their soon-to-expire annual ***** before the end of 2004
This made me laugh and laugh, but I've got a feeling that someone on staff really might want to change it.
Yeah, we're on it.

blusilva 09-20-2004, 08:29 AM It's kind of a shame, because it is so funny. Thanks for starting out my week just right!
We blame it all on Microsoft.

sediment 09-20-2004, 11:10 AM Unfunny typos....
I don't understand this information.
Annual Pass blockout dates:
SL – Southern California Select Annual Pass. Completely blocked this week.
SC – Southern California Annual Pass. Completely blocked this week.
DX – Deluxe Annual Pass.
The SL and SC are not "Completely blocked this week," according to the calendar below this quote.
Maybe it's bit old and at the bottom of the update, but it's been a few weeks since that statement was true.
Also: It's "Annual Passport." And elsewhere in the update, "Annual Passholders" was used. If you don't state things properly, people might think you (plural) don't know what you're talking about. Just a suggestion.

Hmmm, on Disneyland's website, the term "Annual Passholder" is used on their Annual Passports (http://disneyland.disney.go.com/dlr/annualPassholder/index?id=AnnualPassholderUngatedContentPage&tixxToken=xB3i50rq66oYeZGpXltKCppk9lQ28Ip8Iwab91uP TXLBGouWg3fHDPYKUl2oPoS132BQFk13FVXj%0A%2BjamcHhgY jJakW%2Fd2BVHyO0R05JbIWpfunA9RJ4tTHYVmCtVv4PFN3qtQ QFyyF%2BN16THnYE0aYeV%0AWN9Um%2F68EYzbmjioois0TO08 1CpVE3%2B9p9UG8LDOLjSddRGbU62Ft7tJHsUgDVCPmxj8KA%2 BG1YPj%0A8bhgg005%2F%2BwAkc6Gpl%2FFOlctxL8CSdVveJu xLXMsKueu986E6RctNduXnSg9R4yhoaqwi6ZDvqtX%0AF2yC6b b1ad%2BRACK2tiKcVgRPF%2BGLFzTA83koqQ%3D%3D) link.
Perhaps you found an instance where Disney refers differently to those who own an annual passport?

Just a suggestion. Not sure why the blockout date info is incorrect, but I'll look at it as soon as I can get my FTP access working again, or someone else with FTP access gets near a computer. (I hate it when the editor and publisher take a vacation)
As for PassPORT and PassHOLDER - what makes you believe that we are obligated to use Disney nomenclature in our articles? We call Disney customers "customers" or "visitors," not "guests," and the use of "cast member" instead of "employee" is discretionary - some columnists prefer to use "employee." We also type Fantasmic! without the ! in articles, and I don't think we refer to Disney's FASTPASS® the way Disney does unless we're quoting written text. (And even then, I'm not sure.... have to ask the copy editor when she gets back from her mountain)
In other words, we're not Disney - they may want to call something the Indiana Jones™ Adventure, but readers usually know what we're talking about when we refer to the Indiana Jones ride.

Sorry but I found another...
"while Mickey and pals will take over from Ariel at Avalon Cove."
The restaurant is Ariel's Grotto. Unless they are changing it back to accomodate Mickey. Why would Mickey hang out at Ariel's place?
sediment 09-20-2004, 02:24 PM You don't have to, Alienne, but you start making words up (and I know it's a SoCal tradition to use acronyms and nicknames for ust about everything, like my doing to your name), people might think that's what they're called. Like "The Teacups," for example. You wouldn't want to give out the wrong information, would you? You're not Disney, but you are an "authority" of sorts. The best Disney Information Service for Fanatics web site that exists. ( I can't remember what we agreed on in that other thread a month or two ago -- not fan site, not watchdog site. Remember?)
Typing "Fantasmic!" without the "!"? I doth protest.
Sheila, if I'm wrong about that, then I'll admit it. But it will take a day or so. I'd rather write a nasty note to Disney about their poor choice of words on their web site. See how far that gets.
You don't have to, Alienne
Sediment, I've seen you use this name before. AVP's name is Adrienne.
sediment 09-20-2004, 02:42 PM It's my pet nickname for her. Based on her insistence that she's in no way related to the film. Alienne V Phoedator. That's her real name, you know. She gets royalties.
Thanks for the clarification. I wasn't in on the joke.
Andrew 09-20-2004, 02:48 PM Thanks for the clarification. I wasn't in on the joke.
There was a joke?
sediment 09-20-2004, 02:54 PM Another unsatisfied customer!
If you feel left out, Andrew, I'll think of a pet nickname for you, too.

cstephens 09-20-2004, 04:11 PM Funny, the "pet names" I have for people are ones that they like and approve of. One of my best friends used to have a moniker that she was called by most of the Disney-associated people, and we used it pretty freely. When she finally told me that it actually bugged her, I made it a point of letting everyone know, and we all stopped calling her that. I do, however, have names by which I refer to people pretty much to antagonize them.
As for "appropriate names", there are those who insist that I'm breaking the biggest laws of the universe by referring to Fantasia Gardens as the "motorboats" and by calling the area between the main gates of DL and DCA the esplanade. I'm a stickler for some stuff, but this kind of thing I find to be ridiculous.

I hope Minnie isn't lurking here.
