The Monterey Bay Aquarium just added a great white shark to the Outer Bay wing exhibit tank yesterday @ 6pm.

I got a chance to look at her this morning. She's beautiful! 4' long, but a white shark nonetheless. Very cool.

This is big news. Please spread it!

Hi, GC!

Wow, that sounds really cool. I hope I can go see her soon! Unfortunately, this weekend is packed. Maybe next weekend...! Now, if only I could keep my kids healthy enough for me to do a road trip...!

Wish I were closer. What a great opportunity. Is there a webcam in the tank where she is so I can get a remote look?

Do you know where they got the shark from? I was under the impression that great white sharks didn't do well in captivity as compared to other sharks.

So when are they going to start having swimalongs...?

So when are they going to start having swimalongs...?they don't do well. It will either die or they will tag and release it. Sea Worls had one years ago and ended up releasing it. We went to see it and I felt so sorry for it. I was happy when they let it go.

I think the website said it was pulled up in a fishing net...

So when are they going to start having swimalongs...?Southern California, Huntington Beach. Caught in a fisherman's net. 1 year old female.

The shark has eaten 4 times today already. Salmon steaks. Yumm. This is one of the first times someone has been able to make a white shark eat in captivity. History in the making.

It is a very fragile fish in captivity. They have high hopes for her though.

I went with my partner Ralphie to the tank. He said that he could cross off one thing on his life-long to do list. He always wanted to see a real white shark in person. Now he has. I got all choked up. :D

I'm happy she (the shark) is doing so well!

Seeing SCUBAbe's and GC's avatars in close succession is a little jarring. Maybe it's just me?

Can't live food be released into the tank? Or will she always be fed pre-kill? Its great that she is eating, maybe it has something to do with her age. Being so young, maybe she could be re-conditioned. Too cool.

Maybe next they can get a giant squid!!!! :fez: I would just love to see one of those.

Tamed, you mean? No, not possible.

not tamed. just adapt to a new type of feeding, and enviroment. A whole new way of life.
