Great Adventure's Muslims-only day - WorldNetDaily.com, 9/13/04 (http://worldnetdaily.com/news/article.asp?ARTICLE_ID=40438)

A popular North American amusement park is scheduled to host a "Great Muslim Adventure Day" this week in which the park will be open only to Muslims, drawing fire from various monitor groups, WorldNetDaily has learned.

The Muslim Youth Division of the Islamic Circle of North America and the Muslim American Society, two of the largest Muslim organizations in America, have arranged exclusive use of Six Flags Great Adventure in Jackson, N.J., for the entire day Friday.

I don't see the problem. Anyone can rent out the park for a price.
Great way to check for extremists, too. Nice sting operation by the FBI/CIA/etc.

Personally I say good on them. BEcause of some of their religious laws some children wouldn't normally get to go on some rides due to the mixed boy girl nature etc. If they have a gret time then I'm all for it and why not. I know my Christain youth Group used to rent out various places like movies threaters and bowling alleys etc anow and again so why not a theme park if they have the resources to do so? Ask a simple question... would it be ok if some other group rented it out? If the answer is no then maybe the problem isn't with the kids at the themepark......

I hope they have a great day and the weather plays nice.

I hope the reason that an ordinary park buy-out is deemed to be "Newsworthy" is because of the silly knee-jerk reaction it generated, and *not* because the religious group that bought the park out happens to not be part of the Judeo-Christian pantheon.

The United States: where religious tolerance exists, as long as you're part of the right religion.

The United States: where religious tolerance exists, as long as you're part of the right religion. From what I can gather, based on this article and some comments I heard on local radio, the major concern seems to be two-fold:

1) This is the only time in this particular park's history that they have ever closed the park to the general public and park annual passholders on what would otherwise be a normal operating day, and sold admission to members and "friends" of a particular religion.

2) Some claim that one of the sponsoring organizations has ties to Hamas.

I frankly don't see a problem with it, and I think you're right - if this were Baptist day at the park, I don't think it would have made a blip on the radar.

I don't know whether SFGAdv has had buyouts in the past, but it is common practice in several other seasonal parks, particularly in the slow weekends between labor day and the start of the Halloween season. For example, SFNE has a buyout this Saturday. Geauga Lake was bought out by Progressive last Sunday (a practice continued from its old SFWoA days). Dorney Park, outside Philadelphia, has *three* buyouts this year: one in May and two in September. For the two or three seasons before this one, Cedar Point sold out its *first* operating day of the season to the Longabeger folks, giving them first public crack at new attractions each season.

I think it's more about the effectiveness of some who know whom to yell and scream at in order to get their "story" heard.
