View Full Version : Any T-Mobile Users out there?
Dlandmom 09-11-2004, 08:41 AM T-Mobile is one of those companies I don't hear mentioned much...is this a good thing or a bad thing?
Anyone have any comments about their service? Coverage? WiFi? Anything?
I currently use T-Mobile. I live in an area that service can be not-so-great with some providers. I switched from Sprint (which stunk - constant dropped calls) to T-Mobile and have been relatively happy with it.
Anna Banana 09-12-2004, 07:57 PM I used to have T-Mobile and was always pretty happy with it except that I had trouble getting a signal in my apartment and places I traveled to. Being that my cell phone is my only phone, its important to me to get good coverage area. Their prices are reasonable for the amount of minutes you get (I never did use all of the 600 I had per month).
Dlandmom 09-12-2004, 08:39 PM Yep, coverage is my main concern. I dropped Cingular after about 5 years because I moved to an area that didn't have good coverage. I now have AT&T, which is okay, but not great. Now I need a phone for work (which I do mostly at my home office), so I'm thinking of trying yet another carrier. I may give T-Mobile a try. I'd like to give Nextel or Verizon a try, but their plans are too expensive for my needs. I don't need a ton of minute, but I do need clarity when I make or take calls.
Javanod 09-12-2004, 10:42 PM My company issues us T-Mobile phones and I've found them as good as cingular GSM, which shouldn't be too surprising since they tend to share towers for coverage. Many people think I'm nuts, but I've always been happy with T-Mobile and Cingular.

Note that Cingular and AT&T Wireless are in the process of merging and they already are sharing networks. At this point, the three are sharing so many towers that the coverage between the big 3 GSM providers really is all pretty equivalent.

SteveK 09-20-2004, 12:12 PM I have T-Mobile and coverage is the main issue for me. We live in a gated community about 100 yards away from a busy street. On the busy street, we get a decent signal. At our house, we get no service. We have several spotty areas in our neighborhood. Other than that, it was the best value we found after researching all of the other big providers.

Dlandmom 09-20-2004, 04:40 PM Thanks, Steve. Coverage is definitely my biggest concern, here. Since I'll be using this phone for work, I don't want to have bad coverage when I'm talking to a client!
I know Verizon has decent service here (neighbors confirmed it for me). I just don't want to pay $10-20 more every month. It does add up, ya know!
Dlandmom 09-21-2004, 08:24 AM I just heard that T-Mobile is on the same network as AT&T/Cingular. Is that true? If that's the case, then I don't want to go with them. I already have AT&T...it's just okay coverage-wise.
I may end up going with Verizon, although I don't like their phone options. I like Nextel, but they're too expensive for my needs! Ugh, decisions decisions decisions...it wouldn't be so bad except that you have to commit for at least a year (of course you can cancel during the trial period, but you know what I mean).
Mermaid 10-04-2004, 08:15 PM I had T Mobile for two years. My biggest problem was the phone would go into "emergency only" mode. This happened whenever I was at Arizona State, which was about three hours every day. It also happened other times, but i NEVER got service at school. Finally, after talking to three different people over two months, they explained to me the problem: the AT&T satalalite was overriding T-mobile. They taught me how to manually select my satalite and then the frequency went from 3-4 hrs a day to once a month. That was about the same time I graduated though, so maybe I just wasn't at ASU anymore. I have Verizon now and have been much happier!
Dlandmom 10-04-2004, 09:18 PM Well, I ended up going with Verizon after all. I actually like the phone I got although it did cost me $100, and their service has been decent so far.
Javanod 10-06-2004, 05:24 PM Glad you made the decision. That one can be hard with all of the options. Hope it works out.
