Did anyone elses children flip out in the 3D movies? My kids were terrified! I was kinda shocked at the It's A Bug's Life one, that was pretty scary for kids I thought, especially the part with the hornets. We didn't even bother with the Muppet 3D because my kids were so tramatized by the first 2.

Sigh, live and learn! My Dad swore the kids would love it, just goes to show what he knows LOL

Muppets is the only one I would recommend for children who get startled easily. No scary parts. There are some noisy parts, but nothing like Tough to Be a Bug or HISTA. Sorry you missed the one they might have enjoyed.

Hmm, well maybe when we go back in December I might be able to convince them to see it, although I'm pretty sure it will be a no go!

I wish I'd known about this board before I went to Disney the first time.

And the huge spiders that fall out of the ceiling?

I hate that they market that as an attraction to promote DCA for little kids. I wish they'd at least try to warn parents but they have so little for kids there. Believe it or not, before they opened Bugs Land, CMs were told to encourage families with preschoolers too small for other rides to take them on it!!!

I don't know if my kids flip out on It's Tough To Be a Bug because I still haven't taken them on it.

I wouldn't take any little kid to that 3D movie, my kids actually loved The Bug's Land, infact the water park was their favorite part! My Dad said that he could have bought me 2 garden hoses and the kids would have had just as much fun and it would have been a heck of a lot cheaper LOL.

The only "warning" I got was when the CM said "if you have small children please sit as far to the right as you can, this way if you need to leave the show you are closer to the exit" at that point I thought "oh no, we're in trouble". I asked the CM at the front if it was scary and told him that my kids were scared in the HISA one, and he said "you'll get wet, it is dark, and there are some loud explosions, go on in" I figured it would be ok, I mean it is "Bug's Life" right? My kids loved that movie.

I was disappointed in this for sure, I think they should have more warning, even my 10 year old walked out of there hysterical.

The movies are scary for my son (well, at least they were when he was 8 mos and 12 mos on our last trips) but not because they were 3-D or otherwise scary from their content, it's all about the volume for him... way too loud and startling - he's always been sensitive to sudden loud noises and these movies are full of them. I am going to try again for his 3rd trip, but I'm bringing earplugs for him.

Does anyone know at what age kids are actually able to process the images from the 3D movies? With kids under a certain age, are some of you taking them to the movies but not having them wear the 3D glasses?

I called my sister. She says that they could probably see fine from the glasses- if they would let you put the glasses on them and keep them on! The problem isn't their ability to see but their willingness to use them. Based on my experiences with Matthew, that would make sense to me. When he was a baby, we took him on HISTA. I would worry more about the noise level than their eyes. My head hurts if I try to look at the movies without the glasses but I'm thinking that if a baby's head started hurting, he'd look away. But then, we'd have to keep the baby happy through the rest of the movie ;)

Thanks for checking on that for me. It was something I had been wondering about for a while, but hadn't ever gotten around to asking anyone about.

I agree that the noise level is likely to be a major concern. We took our son into "Golden Dreams" on Sunday and I did have to hold my hands over his ears during most of it. He definitely was reacting to the audio levels.

My kids were 9 and 5 when I took them into HISTA and IABL and my daughter actually knocked the glasses off her face in HISTA in hopes the images would go away, she said it was worse.

We won't do the 3D again, what is funny is that my 5 year old when he was 4 saw the Spy Kids 3D movie and was totally fine. I don't know what happened here.

my three year old freaked out badly! my nine year old ( just turned 10) could not do it enough. I loved it also but will not be taking the almost 4 year old on them again.

In terms of kid-friendliness, I'd rank the 3-D movies as follows:

Mickey's PhilharMagic (WDW-only, but really great)
MuppetVision
HISTA
ITTBAB

So far, J has seen (and liked) PhilharMagic and MuppetVision. He may (or may not) be ready for HISTA on our next trip, but I think that ITTBAB will have to wait a few years.

I thought the scariest part of Muppets was the part when what's his name comes out of the side door and walks up and down in front looking for the rabbit. You know? The big 7 foot tall hairy dude? I would think any kid sitting in the front row when he walks out would be scared spitless.

Ok my kids ages 4 and 9 at the time saw all 3 of the DLR 3-d movies they both got a kick out of Bugs, Muppets was addorable but in HISTA my 4 year old LOVED it my 9 yr old left crying and asked why everthing in the movie kept happening to her ("Why's everything keep happening to Meeeeeee? It's all right in front of Meeeee") rather sad but DH and I had to try Very hard not to laugh while we explained it

needles to say it just depends on your childs disposition I guess.

I think we're going to avoid even the Muppet 3D movie this time. The kids were SO scared in the other 2 I don't want to risk it. Heck I was even a little scared in ITTBAB (blushing)

I wouldn't bring a kid 10 or younger on It's Tough to be a Bug. That one could easily scare an adult :)

The only one we will be seeing again is PhilHarmagic. Bugs Life and Honey terrified my son and muppets was cute but not as good as Philharmagic.

Last year I took my 3 year old girl and 8 year old boy. I was really worried about taking my daughter into ITTBAB. I told her that it was dark and loud and had lots of scary-looking bugs in there, but that it was all part of Mickey Mouse's magical show and that none of the scary things were real (Our motto when we visit the parks). She said she wanted to go so we did. Turns out she loved it. My 8 year old, on the other hand, slithered down onto the floor, covered his ears and hid his eyes until it was over. Go figure. Depends on the child I guess.

I wouldn't take my 4 year old daughter on It's Tough to Be a Bug for all the tea in China. I know she'd flip out.

It seems like every time my husband and I do that ride, there are little kids in there freaking out.

I read this and did not apparently take it to heart. My six year old who ended up liking space mountain and splash mountain cried in It's tough to be a bug and refused to watch anything else labeled 3-D. We did talk her into Philharmagic which she liked okay but by the next day she went in the muppets with us but refused to open her eyes, just in case. If you want to try them, definitely start with Philharmagic and then progress to muppets and if that goes okay, you could think about HISTA and ITTBAB. My seven year old son liked them all so it must not be an age thing, more of a temperament thing.

How old are your kids? LY my 8, 6, 2 and 1 year old loved the "Bugs Life" 3D show. Our favorite was HISTA!
