The Disney Cruise Line has updated what it plans to do with the ships over the next few days.

From the DCL Site:

Disney Magic
The August 28, 7-night Western Caribbean sailing will be extended by two nights, arriving in Port Canaveral on Monday, September 6 at 11 am.

The 7-night Eastern Caribbean sailing, scheduled for September 4, will be shortened two nights, departing on Monday, September 6 at 6 pm from Port Canaveral and arriving back as scheduled on Saturday, September 11. To avoid the effects of Hurricane Frances, we will be sailing a modified Western Caribbean itinerary.

Disney Wonder
The September 2, 3-night Bahamas sailing will be extended one night, returning to Port Canaveral on Monday, September 6 at 6 am. Since it is unlikely that our scheduled calls to Castaway Cay and Nassau will be possible, they will be replaced with a Saturday, September 4 call to Cozumel, Mexico.

The 4-night Bahamas sailing scheduled for September 5 will be delayed and shortened one night, departing on Monday, September 6 at 6 pm from Port Canaveral, arriving back as scheduled on Thursday, September 9. Since it is unlikely that our scheduled calls to Castaway Cay and Nassau will be possible, guests will enjoy two days at sea, a safe distance from the effects of Hurricane Frances.

The Disney Magic had to make a slight detour (http://www.galvnews.com/story.lasso?wcd=23662):GALVESTON — Hundreds of unexpected guests will arrive in Galveston’s harbor today as Hurricane Frances forced a Disney Cruise-liner from its course home.

In its emergency berthing, Disney Magic will arrive here about 7:30 a.m. and depart about noon, after fueling up and taking on provisions. The ship then will head to its homeport in Florida, where residents on Friday were bracing for Hurricane Frances.

AS a side note, do passengers on cruises with shortened itineraries get any sort of refund or discount? I mean, DCL is providing only 70-75% of the food and lodging that passengers had paid for.

Yes. According to today's memo:
Disney Magic
The seven-night Eastern Caribbean sailing, originally scheduled for September 4th, will be shortened to a four-night cruise and will depart on Tuesday, September 7th at 5 p.m. from Port Canaveral.
Fares for this shortened cruise will be discounted 50% , and guests will be offered special incentives for sailing.

Port Canaveral was filled with sand during the hurricane. The relentless westward pounding caused by the slow movement at the east coast cause the sand to fill the port so much that it will be quite some time - after a tremendous amount of dredging - before any cruise ships enter or depart from there. According to the local news, the cruise chips need a minimum of 30 feet clearance. Right now there is only 27 feet of clearance. The communities near the port were ravaged. This was a terrible, terrible storm. The economic impact goes far beyond property damage.

According to the DCL update today, it looks like no Castaway Cay :(

Disney Wonder, September 9, 3-night Bahamas Cruise
Due to the planned closure of Port Canaveral through Thursday, September 9, we will be embarking guests for this cruise from Port Everglades in Ft. Lauderdale.

Complimentary transfers to Port Everglades will be provided from:

* The Orlando International Airport
* The WDW Resort
* Port Canaveral
* The Ft. Lauderdale International Airport
* The Miami International Airport

Guests with flights booked independent of Disney Cruise Line should remain on their scheduled flights to avoid change fees. Guests who are driving are encouraged to park at one of the Central Florida locations including the Orlando International Airport, Walt Disney World Resort or Port Canaveral, as we anticipate debarkation in Port Canaveral on Sunday, September 12, 2004, pending the ports re-opening.

Our itinerary will include a stop at Nassau and a day at sea.
