Ok, so i love my tivo and all that.

Don't laugh, but a year ago when the guy hooked it up, i never bothered to check (and havent used since) my Picture in Picture on my tv.

Today i turn it on, and lo and behold, it doesnt work. I mean it DOES, but it shows the same channel on both screens.

I can get a different channel though rabbit ears (ugh) but no matter how i change the connections, and the imputs on my tv menu. No dice.

HOWEVER. I have another receiver in my bedroom, which i promptly split, and ran into my big screen in the living room (the one with the tivo).

So now i CAN get PIP, using both receivers. (a temporary fix, which also forces anyone in the bedroom to watch whatever i'm sending to the PIP screen.

Make sense so far?

I called Directv, and even though i have *2* independent lines from the satellite to the tivo (plus a 3rd to the br), they tell me its impossible to have PIP with just that one tivo receiver in the living room. That inside, it will only broadcast 1 channel at a time. That i can switch back and forth between the 2 tuners (which we have done 1000's of times). But that it will NOT broadcast 2 shows to the tv simultaneously and it just cant handle it.

If this is the case, fine, i'll leave my temporary fix as is for football season :D

But, i was just wondering if anyone out there has the directv tivo, and is using PIP, and how did you manage it?

Thanks, and hopefully that didnt give any of you a headache. I'm going to go get some tylenol now.

What the DirecTV tech support told you is exactly right. A DirecTV TiVo receiver can record two channels at once, but they don't currently have the capability to send the output of both tuners to monitors at the same time.

One option you might consider, assuming you have enough satellite connections in your living room, would be to simply pick up another receiver. They aren't very expensive. You could get another TiVo for around $99 and a regular DirecTV receiver for under $50.

Good point. Well $50 and then $4.99/mo to dtv for another receiver but that's still not too bad. Just wanted to make sure there was no other way. Yeah i wasnt planning on hijacking the br receiver for long lol. So another one is prob the way to go.

Thanks.

BTW: If anyone has questions about DirectTivo or other sat TV systems... go to www.dbsforums.com .... They are to Sat. TV what this board is to Disney.
