Last week's entries can be found here (http://mousepad.mouseplanet.com/showthread.php?t=30394). Rules of the game (and anybody can start playing at any time and have a chance at something) are here (http://mousepad.mouseplanet.com/showpost.php?p=401700&postcount=1).
This Weekend's Game
It'll be a very difficult game this week and I predict lower scores. In addition to several successful movies still in theaters (Spider-Man 2; I, Robot - though it did fall precipitously in week two; and The Bourne Supremacy) we have four wide openings this week and I'd classify all but one as an unknown entity.
The sure thing is M. Night Shymalan's fourth movie The Village. Disney's last hope for a big summer is under amazingly tight seal. The big-time critics don't get to see it until the Wednesday before it opens while the small-time (that's me) have to wait until 8pm the day before and stay up all night writing reviews, resulting in a strangely grumpy and incoherent result. Not that I'm complaining.
All I really know about this one is that an isolated late 17th century village has a monster. Since it isn't based on a Stephen King novel, I think we can safely it won't turn out that the village is on the back of a cosmic turtle swimming slowly through the cosmos. It will open on 3,000 screens.
Then we have a remake that nobody was asking for, but has the talent involved to actually be good. The Manchurian Candiate with Denzel Washington and Meryl Streep. The story has been updated to the Gulf War and a different explanation of the title is developed. It will open on 2,700 screens.
A teen comedy, Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle is a bit of counter programming and will open on 2,000 screens.
Finally, we have another movie no one was asking for. Way back when someone said "hey! what if we did your standard secret agency show WITH PUPPETS!" The Thunderbirds was the result. 35 years later someone said "hey! what if we did your standard puppet secret agency show as a LIVE ACTION!" Not realizing the extreme stupidity of this, The Thunderbirds has been made as a live-action, stupid-looking movie. It will open on 2,000 screens as well.

Last Weekend's Game
In a bit of a suprise, A Cinderella Story held on to the fifth spot, costing almost everybody 10 points (for predicting Anchorman for that slot). While it isn't showing up in our game, it is worth noting that The Notebook is showing suprising legs, do to word-of-mouth. For the second week in a row, its box office fell less than 20%. Compare this to I, Robot's second weekend fall of over 55%.
The final numbers for the top ten were:
1. The Bourne Supremacy - $52.5
2. I, Robot - $21.7 million
3. Catwoman - $16.7 million
4. Spider-Man 2 - $15.0 million
5. A Cinderella Story - $7.8 million
6. Anchorman - $7.0 million
7. Fahrenheit 9/11 - $4.8 million
8. The Notebook - $4.3 million
9. King Arthur - $3.0 million
10. Shrek 2 - $2.3 million
The total box office for the top ten was $135.2 million.
