Basically, they couldn't compete with Knotts, which pretty much has the Halloween market cornered here. I tend to doubt USH will bring back their event.

I heard a few weeks ago from a semi-official source that, if attendance kicks up this summer, they will bring back Halloween at Universal. This is great news because I enjoyed universals event much more than knott's... Probably because its AT a movie studio and it was.. well.. scarier

I worked the original one in 1992 and it was great. I always heard it cost too much and it was poorly planned. Would love if they brought it back. There is room for another.

That's the reasoning I remember as well. That it cost simply too much to put on. Which is amazing, considering it is a smaller park than Knott's with far less to do.

I think it is high time it should be brought back. They have basically 3 horror attractions right now...Mummy, Helsing, Jurrasic Park. They have an empty venue, the old west theater good for a show.

I would like to see something done with the tram..maybe a zombie attack in the old part of the sets, like to see maybe a classic movie monster on the old sets, have Norman rush out of the psycho house....plenty of options to turn the tram tour into a horror tour.

A lot of potential there at USH.

Attendance this summer has been lackluster at best, with no new record breaking attendance projection in sight.

Halloween is still a go as of now however.

The wont use the trams, because of the incident where the person was killed. it is too dangerous, plus any time they run the trams at night they have to get permission from the homewoners of the surrounding area and they just dont agree. So Tram is out.

But they do use the area near it for a maze.

haha if you think the wild wild west areana is ready for a show, you havent been inside recently...

and what tram incident? i never herd of anything

and they really need approval from the movie studio, not so much of the homeowners becasue universal is seperated far from resedential areas

The incident in question I believe was where a character got killed in what was then the ice tunnel. I believe an employee slipped onto the track where the tram goes through and got run over.

Universal is not separated far from homeowners. The homeowners are one of the major obstacles in preventing the park from expanding. When I worked for USH in the 90's, there were major plans to expand the resort with more hotels, etc. One major reason this never happened was because of the homeowners and USH not being able to provide better traffic flow on the surrounding streets.

ANyone who has been around there at night when concerts and Citywalk let out know what I am talking about.

The tram accident actually occured at the first Horror nights in the late 80's. HHN then went away before it came back in 1992. I attended in 92 when there were only 2 or 3 mazes but they did have the haunted tram tour. I went again in 98 and 99, it was too bad the tram part was eliminated.

TicketMaster.com is has a listing for Halloween Horror Nights at Unviersal Studios Hollywood. Is this a sign? Does this mean the event will happen this year?

Ticketmaster keeps many ongoing events in their system even if it may never be held again or if a band has broken up. We'll just have to wait and see about HHN at USH.

Yes they are having it. nO official announcement yet but employees have been telling park guests for about a month.

If theya re counting on attendance, well like I said, they ahve been trending below what was projected. A record breaking summer? NOT EVEN CLOSE!!!

But like I said, word has it.... HHN is returning

USH Management says HHN has been scrapped for vedor related issues
which really means

Our attendance is nowhere near where it was supposed to be. We cant afford it now, Why isnt the Mummy drawing more crowds!!!!!

Literally planning up until this past week, all plans are called off.

A shame.

Where do you get this supposed information? In another post, you claimed you didn't work there. Which is it?

What difference does it make. Just because I dont work there doesnt mean i cant know this information.

I could care less if you believe me or not.
If I hear one thing 1 day and 2 days after I know something else and choose to share it, thats up to me.

Why do people have to be such pains!!!!

He is just making up the information. You can tell by his posts that he can't keep his stories straight. If he knew someone, he would mention it although not neccesarily by name. Don't worry about it. Research on your own to see if they are having it.

My apologies - didn't mean to question your integrity. I guess I just feel that rumors should be tagged as such. Hearing stuff third hand shouldn't be stated as fact unless it's confirmed. Just a personal opinion - I've seen a lot of things over the years that have been passed along and haven't been true.

I was probably just testy because you got my hopes up about the event.

I apologize if you got excited. ALOT of people did and alot of people were repremanded for giving out the HHN stuff before it was made official.

I seriously wouldnt post anything unless I was close to 100% sure on it. I agree a rumor is a rumor but this was pretty specific information.

Anyways..... I just try to give correct info when I have it, correct rumors when i see them and just spread a little cheer, holiday or not!!!!!

:)

No hard feelings!!!!

Well, I guess the answer is: No go again for this year! That's really too bad, as I agree, they do it much better that Knotts with all of the effects. One of the things i found strange though is the serving of alcohol throughout the park. this could lead to some problems I would think. maybe thigs will pick up and they'll decide to try next year (I hope).

I highly doubt it. Even with the recent NBC merger things have not gotten better.

New shows possibly coming..... Dora and a possible Fear Factor Live.....

If the Mummy didnt bring them in, not much else will.
