Sprint Gimme the Mike FINALS!
For the six finalists performing LIVE in the Sprint Gimme the Mike (http://www.ktvu.com/gimmethemike/index.html) contest at PGA's Paramount Theatre on July 2nd, it's been a hectic, competitive and fun-filled ride. It began in early April as hundreds of wanna-be stars turned out to sing for three judges who scored each contestant on a scale from 1-10, 10 being the highest. The top 100 scores were selected to move into the Quarter Finals where the field was narrowed to 25 semi-finalists.
Each semi-finalist performed on one of five KTVU Fox 2's “Live Performance” shows. The judges selected one finalist from each show and viewers at home logged onto the station's website to pick a Wild Card entry from each night. The Wild Card scoring the most votes became the sixth finalist.
These six finalists are competing one last time on July 2nd from 8-9pm and you're invited to be a part of the audience! Space is limited, so arrive early to see who the judges crown the Grand Prize Winner of Sprint Gimme the Mike. The Grand Prize Winner will walk away with the title, a new 2004 Chevy Blazer LS and 10 hours of recording time at Fantasy Recording Studios.

Your Great America Coaster Ideas
You had no rules, no restrictions. We simply wanted to hear what YOU would create, if you were in charge of designing the next big ride for PGA. Response was incredible and your ideas fantastic. Here's a sample of what guests would be riding if you were in charge!
Chris M. of Sparks, NV is the mastermind behind an attraction he's dubbed Warp 9. This Star Trek themed ride would be an indoor roller coaster and would start slowly in gaining altitude. A villain theme would be introduced (picture Borg, Klingon, Dominion and Xindi), followed by the sensation of going through a time warp, marked by a quick drop and several hair pin turns. Before the ride is over, guests loop, corkscrew and experience gravity-defying turns as they eventually destroy the enemy and soar through an explosion (picture a mist wall) before slowing down and docking back at base.
Full of ideas, Lisa M. of Watsonville, CA. suggested a handful of rides. “One would be a roller coaster with a lot of "surprise" water involved. Riders would be squirted and splashed and left soaked by the end! I'd also like to see an old fashioned Tunnel of Love and some kind of tour/tram ride that goes from the parking lot to several places in the Park, including rides and various buildings.” Also on Lisa's wish list is a submarine ride with sea monsters and beautiful fish and a virtual reality outer space ride.
Corrine T. of San Jose, CA would create a ride taking the best parts of The Pirates of the Caribbean, Haunted Mansion, Peter Pan, and Alice and Wonderland images. Guests would load into a cart and be able to make choices as to which room to visit along the way. For example, they might turn off into the fantasy room or choose a scary or kiddie route. For guests waiting their turn, there'd be a holding area playing shows from Nickelodeon and TV Land.
Many more amazing ride ideas were submitted by readers and we'll continue to share them with you in future issues! Thanks to all who took the time to become a roller coaster engineer for the day!

“What I remember most about PGA are the wonderful, patient people that work there. They thoroughly understood a grandmother's trepidation of allowing one of her precious grandchildren to ride his first major roller coaster. I was petrified when my grandson finally reached the height requirement to ride a big coaster. He ran to the entrance of the ride and I called him back three times, worried his parents would never forgive me if something happened to him. But he was confident, so I bravely smiled and sent him on his big adventure.
The employee at the ride was accommodating when I asked to be allowed to see my grandson get on the ride. She also graciously told the person loading the ride that I was there in case my grandson changed his mind. He didn't change his mind – he jumped into the very front seat! He had a great time that year and it was all he could talk about afterwards Thank you for hiring such great, understanding employees! It makes our visits to Great America so enjoyable!”
- Barbara R. from Sacramento, CA, will receive two tickets to Paramount's Great America! Winners are randomly selected. Submit your entry (http://www.parkfeedback.com/news/memories.aspx)!
