“We've been season passholders since 1992 when my oldest son was just 15 months old. As he grew up, Josh would eagerly begin measuring his height each February in anticipation of the rides he'd be tall enough for when the park opened for a new season. When PGA put in Drop Zone, that became the yard stick by which all things were measured. His first big roller coaster ride was the Grizzly. That same year he was tall enough to ride the Tidal Wave. He very hesitantly agreed to go with his dad and got in line for it. Josh was about to back out before his dad said "I'll give you a dollar if you ride this. I know you'll like it." Josh pondered his dad's proposition for a moment and then responded, "Give me $10 and I'll do it." They settled on $2 and Josh rode the Tidal Wave and continued to do so until it was removed from the park. Thanks to PGA, Josh has developed an interest in designing roller coasters now. Who knows, 10 years from now, he may have designed the latest and greatest addition to Paramounts Great America!”
- Kim D. from San Jose, CA, will receive two tickets to Paramount's Great America! Winners are randomly selected. Submit your entry (http://www.parkfeedback.com/news/memories.aspx)!

PGA Ride Safety Routine
With 100 acres of rides and attractions, the number one priority of every Paramount's Great America employee is your safety. Through daily, weekly, monthly and yearly audits, we're constantly engaged in pursuing and promoting safety in all aspects of our operation.
All Great America attractions are designed to operate in accordance with the American Society for Testing and Material (ASTM) - Committee on Amusement Rides and Devices guidelines. The park brings in an independent 3rd party that conducts annual safety inspections for all of the rides to verify compliance with state and ASTM requirements. The Park is also inspected annually by the California Department of Industrial Relations.
Handling the daily ride maintenance, from the Park side, is our dedicated team of engineers, coaster carpenters, electricians and ride maintenance staff. Each day, our team examines every ride in detail. This includes inspection of structures, tracks, units (the car, boat, or "unit" the guests ride in), ride systems, queue lines, grounds, entries and exits. Unscheduled inspections are conducted continuously based upon the needs of the ride. Smaller attractions take 30 minutes to inspect while larger rides can take hours. Coaster carpenters walk the wooden coaster tracks every morning and steel coasters are x-rayed periodically to ensure the integrity of the structure. Each ride is operated by a computer and in the case of larger coasters, contains hundreds of sensors letting the computer know what's happening each second.
The Park is doing everything in its power to keep you protected, but there are some things you can do to help make your time on our rides safe and enjoyable. Please take a moment to read the safety guidelines before boarding any attraction and observe ride restrictions. Once on board, you should follow all instructions of ride operators and remain seated.
Music and Memories at PGA's Redwood Amphitheater
The Redwood Amphitheater at Paramount's Great America is a popular venue for top artists and performers from every musical genre. The artist lineup for 2004 is a work in progress, but already confirmed events include Michael W. Smith (http://www.ticketmaster.com/event/1C0038A1B380531B?brand=&artistid=733607&majorcatid=10001&minorcatid=50) (July 31st), Alejandra Guzman (http://www.ticketmaster.com/event/1C0038B9C49E4677?brand=&artistid=761876&majorcatid=10001&minorcatid=40) (July 17th), Weird Al (August 8th) and JoyFest (http://www.ticketmaster.com/event/1C00389BD80C89CD?brand=&artistid=821140&majorcatid=10001&minorcatid=50), featuring the sounds of Newsboys, Relient K and Skillet (October 23rd).
Many of you responded to our request in the last newsletter for personal Redwood Amphitheater memories. Your stories and suggestions help ensure we're delivering the entertainment you crave! Jill T., of Atascadero, CA, will be glad to read Michael W. Smith is scheduled to appear again. She caught an earlier performance of his and remembers the feeling of community as she joined hundreds of fellow believers in musical worship. On her wish list of future artists she'd like to see was the group Newsboys and they'll be here in October as part of JoyFest!
Julie R. of Seaside, CA, rated Weird Al's performances among the best she's seen but suggested more opportunities to win backstage passes to meet the artists. For Molly A. of Stockton, CA, fan-band interaction was at its best during the 2002 Punk Rock Picnic. After watching her favorite band Blink-182 give an intimate interview and performance, Molly and her friends headed out into the Park. The band Unwritten Law, part of the Punk Rock Picnic lineup, had already finished their gig and happened to get in line beside Molly's group for The Grizzly and Demon attractions.
Mother and daughter shared their first concert memory when Pamela F. of Fremont, CA, took her daughter to see A. Teens and Aaron Carter at Redwood Amphitheatre. “It was my daughter's first concert, so it was special,” wrote Pamela. “The venue is more intimate than larger facilities, but still professional and entertaining. The show was very positive in nature and great for my daughter!”
The artist lineup at PGA's Redwood Amphitheater will continue to reflect all types of music and entertainment. We've noted your requests and pleas to have ZZ Top, Hilary Duff, Jessica Simpson, Elton John and Bon Jovi grace our stage. Keep an eye on the calendar listing and our website (http://www.pgathrills.com/events.jsp) for upcoming performances.
Stay tuned for our next issue on June 18
