FUNTOWN FIRE ACADEMY DEBUTS AT LEGOLAND® CALIFORNIA
As the summer heats up, so does LEGOLAND® California's newest attraction. Memorial Day will spark new family fun with the new Fun Town Fire Academy ride. To celebrate the park's fifth birthday, five new attractions will be added to the 128-acre family theme park throughout the year. The Fun Town Fire Academy is the fourth attraction to open in 2004, while three other attractions were opened earlier this year.
Families compete by piling into a "fire truck" and powering it, by pumping levers and pushing buttons, across a paved straightaway. When they reach their destination, they leap out of the truck, pick up a fire hose, and pump another lever to send water surging through the hose and towards the target - a "burning" building. When the stream of water hits the mark, the family piles into the truck and powers it across the straightaway again, back to the starting point. Each race will be timed, and up to four fire trucks can compete in any single contest. The elaborate "action stage" has two separate sets, allowing a total of eight trucks to be engaged at a time. The hilarious workout will test a family's fitness and funny bone.
The attraction will expand on the fire-safety awareness generated by the popular "The Big Test" interactive stage show, which is performed in the open-air arena in Fun Town since the park opened. Guests share in the laughs as members of the Fun Town Volunteer Fire Department take their final test to become official firefighters. Slapstick comedy and skilled acrobats, as well as a working fire truck, make this show an engaging, hilarious experience. Kids learn all about fire safety while being entertained with the soaking antics of this athletic comedy troupe. Look for a revamped version of "The Big Test; Fun Town Fire Fighters in Action" also opening Memorial Day Weekend.
"It's important to teach kids about fire safety and calling 9-1-1 effectively. Here at LEGOLAND California, where everything is interactive, the child, as well as the parent, learn valuable lessons while having fun," said John Jakobsen, President and General Manager of LEGOLAND California. "'The Big Test' show is one of our most popular shows and the Fun Town Fire Fighters teach kids what to do and what not to do, while doing acrobatics and spraying the audience with water. It's fun for the whole family."
On March 20, LEGOLAND California celebrated its fifth birthday. In honor of this amazing milestone, the park is adding five new attractions in 2004. In Feb., LEGOLAND brought guests face-to-face with famous celebrities and political figures throughout history. Block of Fame, which combines history and classic art in a tree-lined walkway of LEGO busts that leads to an amazing three-dimensional art gallery.
The Dino Island area of LEGOLAND opened in April and features two more already popular attractions. Coastersaurus is an exciting roller coaster that reaches speeds of over 20 m.p.h. as it climbs, curves and dips in and around a Jurassic jumble of animated and life-sized LEGO brick dinosaurs and Dig Those Dinos is an interactive area that allows young guests to test their archeological skills as they dig for the "skeletal remains" of dinosaurs buried in a 2,400-square-feet sand pit. On June 18, just before Father's day, Miniland Florida will be added to Miniland to include Cape Canaveral and the famous Daytona International Speedway where guests will be able to remotely race LEGO brick cars around the racetrack!
LEGOLAND California is a 128-acre family theme park dedicated to families with children between the ages of 2 and 12. Just like with LEGO toys, kids are the ones who make things happen at the park. They drive, pedal, squirt, climb, jump, slide, steer, pull, click, gallop, laugh, build and program their way through more than 50 rides, shows and attractions. There are only three other LEGOLAND parks in the world -- LEGOLAND® Billund in Denmark, LEGOLAND® Windsor outside of London and LEGOLAND® Deutschland near Günzburg, Germany.
