WOW! I went on vacation for a little over a week, and suddenly PIP is the board to be on!

Really, I just wanted to let truesally know (since the thread whose name shall remain unsaid was closed), that if you borrow your friend's stroller, you don't have to check it.

You just wheel it down the ramp as you board and they will take it right before you enter the plane. It will be in the same spot when you deplane (or shortly thereafter).

Hope this helps.

It's called "Gate Checking" and to add to the tip: just let the attendants know when you check-in at the gate for your flight. They'll give you a tag to put on your stroller so they know what's going on and you'll get it back and all that.

The only thing about gate checking is that if you have a connecting flight, you'll need to get a new tag at each segment of your flight so paln that into your trip timing.

What, you didn't think my way of saying it was easier? ;)

;) You did a lovely job, I just wanted to throw in the term so if truesally decided to take her stroller, she would have the term handy. I'm glad you said something because for people who haven't travelled with a stroller before, it's a good tip to know.

I used gate check when I flew to Kansas City... (from LA... via, get this, Chicago.... )

Imagine my delight, seeing my 'name' in the title of a post! :D

You don't know how much I appreciate this information - I knew you could wheel the stroller down the ramp but thought it was basically 'checked' at that point and we'd have to pick it up at baggage claim *blech* So this is just great!

Thanks again

Well, we were using FF miles... but we got to stop in Denver coming home... and got to run through the airport to get my gate check stub because they were already boarding our connecting flight. I was pregnant and Doc and my sister were recovering from food poisoning. Good times.

(Sorry to derail your thread, Truesally!) ON TOPIC: Gate Checking IS really worth it though! We actually used the stroller to help carry our carry-ons and M's carseat when we were in the airports (at LAX, OHare, and in KC anyway- there wasn't enough time to use it in Denver.) (We actually used his carseat on the plane, too- he was just over 2.)

We used gate checking for our stroller during a recent trip to Las Vegas and also found it to be an extremely valuable and convenient feature. It was particularly useful since we have a travel system where the car seat is also the infant seat for the stroller. We purchased a ticket for our son (I honestly can't imagine flying without doing so), which meant that they basically let us keep him in the stroller right up to the entrance to the plane.

The only issue at all that we ran into was that I actually forgot about the stroller when we arrived back home and had to go back for it. Since they don't have jetways at the Burbank airport, the stroller was waiting for us out on the tarmac a few feet away from the staircase. We walked right past it without evening noticing it...
