View Full Version : Working at Universal SJSman 05-02-2004, 10:43 PM Im thinking about applying to work at USH. Any comments about working there? Past experiences, stories, etc. Thanks! CoasterMatt 05-02-2004, 10:51 PM It can be a lot of fun, but it's not something you do for the money. You can meet and interact with people from all over the world, from many different backgrounds and world outlooks. You can come to work and see things every day that people spend their entire lives only wishing they could see (You'd be amazed at how people react just seeing the production schedule board, even if they don't get to see any of the production being done). Is there any particular area of the park that you're interested in? SJSman 05-03-2004, 12:27 AM I interviewed for stage management and show crew-- Awaiting a response sometime this week! Universal is one of those places Ive wanted to work at since I was a little kid.. I've always been interested in technical theatre and am studying stage management at the University of Michigan. We'll see what happens! Go blue :) BornieoTheLoveBug 05-03-2004, 03:05 AM I worked there back in 93 and opened the Back to the Future ride. I was there only for a few months. Had a blast but wasn't something I could've continued doing for that pay. I guess if you're nearby it would be somewhat worth it in the long run. eyespy11 05-13-2004, 10:35 AM Once you realize that the whole meeting people from other countries and being part of a "hollywood expereince" wears off you are left with micro-managing, stupid guest service intiatives and no lunch breaks. Seriously, maybe now that NBC has taken over things will change. I highly doubt it. Its a mirage... You think something so cool is there, but in reality its harder and harder to reach it........ then you get suckered into working there for years and before you know it you are almost 35 and making $11 an hour being an attractions lead and too scared to go get a job somewhere else. duffman03 05-13-2004, 02:49 PM "you get suckered into working there for years and before you know it you are almost 35 and making $11 an hour being an attractions lead and too scared to go get a job somewhere else." This sounds more like your own personal issue than it does with the job. CoasterMatt 05-13-2004, 06:22 PM ... stupid guest service intiatives You mean the ones that have made guests have positive experiences? Oh, it's so TERRIBLE how Universal makes you greet guests, and interact with people, those mean slave driving manager types. and no lunch breaks. You sure you aren't working at Six Flags? If you aren't getting your lunch breaks, you poor thing, you can speak with a supervisor/manager/director. Or you can speak with a union rep. If it's so hard to work at Universal, then why not leave? eyespy11 05-13-2004, 07:15 PM I dont work there and im nowhere near 35. This is my experience with people that do work there. Guest Service is wonderful if provided in a positive way. Anyway, I dont really care, i just though i would post my views... If you love working there thats peachy keen with me!! Have a fantastic wonderfully happy day. Imagine the possibilites...... SJSman 05-13-2004, 07:16 PM I interviewed at Universal for a summer job two weeks ago and havent heard back from them. They told me I would hear "within a week of the interview". I've tried to call and get an update about 3 times now with no success. It's very hard to sit by the phone everyday wondering when I will get a call. All I request now is an update of when I will actually be hearing from them. Any suggestions? Tony Montana 05-13-2004, 10:17 PM u applied for show crew... dont know much about that, but consider going into admissions host. you will be mostly taking anual pass pictures at the new supercenter |
