For me, I'd say Schindler's List. That movie made a huge impact on me.

All About Eve, starring Bette Davis. What a wonderful movie. Back when movies consisted of deep characters and excellent dialog.

"While You Were Sleeping" possibly the best romantic comedy ever made. :D

(and the LOTR trilogy- of course)

All About EveLani stole mine. I'd have to agree with Lani on this one.

If we can't repeat them, then I'd say "Casablanca".

I LOVE All About Eve! But, it doesn't beat The Philadelphia Story. I could watch that film over and over and over and over.

But I don't own it on DVD. :oldeek:

There is a heart in there afterall, sediment. ;)

I agree with this one--and it's a crying shame what overexposure has done to the reputation of this film. I still never get tired of it, though.

Hmmm. Hard one, lots of movies have made an impact on me. Well, if you're gonna see Jane Austen rather than read Jane Austen I'd have to say Pride & Prejudice . BBC version of course. What? You expected me to say the Hollywood black & white version ?;)

But if you're going to see one movie to get a flavor for "those days" of the Hollywood movie musical than I'd have to say Singin' in the Rain . If only to marvel at the magic that was Donald O' Connor and Gene Kelly.

Probably A Chorus Line. I have already watched it hundreds of times. I never get sick of that movie!

Close second would be Singin' in the Rain because the kids love to watch it with me.

(And I am jumping on the All About Eve bandwagon. Incredible movie. The story is classic. The acting fantastic. I should own that film!)

Love IAWL! The scene where Little George Bailey doesn't deliver the prescription... it makes me cry every time. :)

OK....no one will agree with me, I'm sure, and it is a rather guilty pleasure of mine, but I could watch this movie 1000 times (probably pushing 50), and I hate watching movies more than once or twice.

Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure. That movie just kills me every time.

You sit around here and you spin your little webs and you think the whole world revolves around you and your money. Well, it doesn't, Sediment. In the whole vast configuration of things, I'd say you were nothing but a scurvy little spider.

Ahem.
Jan, P&P was up at the top for me, as well as Henry V (Ken B.'s version.) That movie really influenced my in my 20's.

I don't know that I can come up with one universal movie that everyone must see, so I'm going to list one that I love that is more "off the beaten track":

Jean-Paul Rappeneau's Cyrano de Bergerac (http://imdb.com/title/tt0099334/) with Gérard Depardieu in the title role.

Great choice, Steph. It's the quintessential Depardieu film. He completely becomes Cyrano.

The first 15 minutes (the play with the bantering insults, the street fight) turn off a lot of people - and believe me when I say I've tried to turn friends on to this film.

GREAT film. Depardieu is so complete as Cyrano. Yummmmy Vincent Perez is in that film too. I need to see that again.
