What exactly is required to get a GAC at DL?

On Friday 4/23 (today, actually - but LATER today) I am taking my friend to Disneyland for the day. She has a kidney disorder that stunted her growth & development, her bones are affected, and she cannot stand or walk for long periods of time. She has her own wheelchair, and also the blue plastic hanger card for the rearview mirror - but apparently no other documentation is obtainable on such short notice. (She lives with her dad but her healthcare is State-funded and he does not keep anything around, document wise - aargh!)

Last Friday we went to DCA and as I pushed her around in the wheelchair all day I had a few people ask me why we did not get a GAC. Honestly, it worked out fine because the queues there are all designed for wheelchair access, and she did not want to ride many of the rides anyhow. (Besides we left the handicapped card in the car, parked in Chip and Dale. Not happening today - too much of a pain. We can use the elevator!!)

I know DLR is very different though, and there are a lot more rides she will want to go on there. She has not been there in years and I want it to be as full a day as possible.

Anyways to get to the meat of the matter, at DL, will they issue a GAC just showing the handicapped parking permit thingy - and seeing that we brought her own wheelchair - or what? I already know to go to City Hall, but is there any point if we do not have some kind of doctor's note for her?

please someone reply w/ info by later this morning! I would have called and asked on my own but I just started a new job and it is a crazy busy office.

You should not need the parking permit card to get a GAC. I would simply go to City Hall (with her of course) and request one.

The answer is very simple - you don't NEED a GAC, because your friend uses a wheelchair.

Seriously. There is no reason why someone who brings their own wheelchair will ever need to get a GAC under the new system. Ask the Main Gate CM for the Guidebook for Guests with Disabilities. That book tells you where the wheelchair accessible entrances to every ride are. That's all you need. If you go to City Hall, they'll give you the same book and no GAC, because you don't need one.

AVP is right again....In fact last I heard they are not giving passes to those in wheelchairs they are simply telling them their wheelchair is there pass. I hope you have a great trip! (((((((((((hugs)))))))))))
