Hi, I have a 5 yr old daughter who is totally into Jack Skellington from the 'Nightmare Before Christmas' movie. I was told by some friends who went to Disneyland last year during halloween that they do a halloween celebration totally themed around this movie. If anyone has any information-dates, special tickets(price or how to get them)it would be greatly appreciated. I'm planning a trip to Disney Wolrd but will change it if I Find that I can get to California for this. Thanks Much.

Haunted Mansion gets a holiday makeover of Nightmare Before Christmas. It stays as such from before Halloween until after the holiday season.

The Haunted Mansion in Disneyland is done with a Nightmare Before Christmas (NBC) overlay that starts in October and runs through January. Other than the special events (I know nothing about them) it is open to the visitors of Disneyland. They also have lots of merchandise (of course).

they always have merchandise for NBC, but I am sure they have even more around Halloween :p

It's usually the first weekend in October to the first weekend in January.
13 WEEKS!! The ride is great and it seems to have a different theme each year. Last year there was 10 hidden Oogie Boogies. I love it! I heard that WDW was going to transform their ride, but that may have been a rumor. Check the websites! If you come to CA, see you there!!

When we went this past October, we saw several kiddies dressed in thier Halloween best going into DCA. After the park closes they must have some sort of special events. I think I remember asking one of the CMs about it and they sponsor events for a number of non profits (Boys and Girls Club, etc). Not sure if it's open to the public or not. Also, as the above posts mention, Haunted Mansion Holiday is totally cool too. Oh, I think that some of the Main Street shops do trick-or-treating for kids in costumes (I think).

Also might have been the CM event.

Thanks everyone for the info. I am going to look into going out there for Halloween. It will be better than the just a plain trip to disney.

And that one is big bucks. $200/person, according to the link below.
WDW has a few Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween events. Not much on the NBC and Skellington, though, if I recall correctly. Family and I found it to be a pretty fun part of a whole week of WDW.

another link to the mousepad announcement:

And according to this, the tickets last year went on sale in mid-May. If you are still planning to attend this, check the DLR update frequently for the next month or so.

And that one is big bucks. $200/person, according to the link below. Actually, there was a movie screening with a costume contest and some trick or treat-like activities that was separate from the HMH merchandise event that you are referring to above.

Here's a link (http://mousepad.mouseplanet.com/showthread.php?t=20286) to a description of last year's event, which cost $35. As opposed to the HMH merchandise event, tickets for this went on sale only about a month in advance of the Oct. 30 screening.

Several MP people went to this and had a great time. Here's a thread with their reviews (http://mousepad.mouseplanet.com/showthread.php?t=20287&page=2&pp=25).

There a couple of different things being discussed here and I think a couple of them are gettng confused (either that, or I'm confused), so I thought I would summarize here with links.

First, DLR (California) hasn't done much of anything special for Halloween for a couple of years. Although PsychDoc mentioned seeing some kids going into DCA: I don't know anything about this.

The main thing within DL is the Haunted Mansion Holiday overlay. This is where they convert the HM into a "Nightmare Before Christmas" version. More than likely, your daughter will love this and will probably insist on going on several times. I haven't seen any posted dates yet (though others may have this info). As Grumpy4 mentioned, this is usually from the first week of October to the first week in January. Expect long lines for this. I did find one thread that discussed what this overlay entails here (http://mousepad.mouseplanet.com/showthread.php?t=21064) and some reviews of last year's event here (http://mousepad.mouseplanet.com/showthread.php?t=20906). Note that both of these links contain spoilers: don't go if you don't want to know!!!

In conjunction with that is Haunted Manion Holiday Event. THIS is the $200 per person event. Although prices and itinerary haven't been announced yet, they HAVE announced that tickets go on sale May 24th (the event is on September 30th). Details here (http://psc.disney.go.com/eventservices/disneygallery/event_disneyland3417.html). CStephens (http://mousepad.mouseplanet.com/member.php?u=73) had a review of last year's event, but the link doesn't seem to be working. A thread discussing that event is here (http://mousepad.mouseplanet.com/showthread.php?t=20867).

Lastly, there has been for at least two years (that I know of, maybe more), a special screening of Nightmare Before Christmas at Disneyland. That event was $35 per person. This thread (http://mousepad.mouseplanet.com/showthread.php?t=20287) has the original announcement and some reviews. If you can get into this event, it is well worth the effort. Although they have not announced it for this year, I am fairly certain it will take place.

I hope this helps :)

[Edited to add] While I was typing this post, some people got in some duplicate info. You should have everything now :)

Aside from the Nightmare ride overlay, merchandise, and special events, there are also spooky-themed entrees and desserts in New Orleans Square and elsewhere in the resort. I recall a fun cherry-chocolate cake frosted like a present with a fondant Skellington on top a few years ago. Otherwise, there isn't much themed for Halloween aside from an usual amount of villain characters in the parks.

Although last year, they DID have trick-or-treating at Downtown Disney. It was so popular that the line was hours long. Buzz was that it was so successful that it made the Powers that Be Getting Better at Running Disneyland consider planning more Halloween events in the parks. Woo, and might I add, hoo.

Kids can show up dressed in costume but adults can't. Last year, they did a trick-or-treat thing in Downtown Disney the weekend before Halloween and within the three Disneyland Resort hotels on Halloween.

Since the Haunted Mansion Holiday event is on September 30, I would expect HMH to open to the general public on Friday, October 1. That's how it's worked the last three years.

In conjunction with that is Haunted Manion Holiday Event. THIS is the $200 per person event.

Actually, $200 is only if you sign up for the dinner as well. There are usually four different levels to the event. I think the "cheapy" package last year was $60 or $75.

CStephens had a review of last year's event, but the link doesn't seem to be working.

You mean here (http://www.colddeadfish.net/dlr/hmhevent2003.html)? The links on my main Disneyland Resort page (http://www.colddeadfish.net/csdlr.html) got screwed up apparently when we switched hosts. I noticed that recently and fixed most of the links. Most of the important ones that is...
