Questions for the Tech-meisters out there:

I get some of my news off of Yahoo News. It is my home page at work. I'm a registered user of Yahoo News. So, if I see an article there that I want to share with someone on MP and I hyperlink to the article, will it work? Will they have access to read it or:
1. do they have to register to see it
2. are they now logged on to my account
3. does it not work.

Kinda confused about this one.

The Yahoo News pages don't require registration, so you should be able to post those links without any problems.

It all depends on what is encoded in the URL that you forward for the story. :geek:

If the URL doesn't include your user account information encoded in it (either encrypted with a long string of gobbledygook or in the clear) it probably relies on cookies for the registration, and the person going to look for that article will have to be registered.

Their system (if built right) will catch the person as they request the page, check for their registration cookie and realize they aren't registered, and send them to a "Register or Log In Now Please" intercept screen. If they are already recognized, they sail through to the article. This is how Los Angeles Times and many other sites work.

I have a Yahoo Groups account, and the first time I went to the Yahoo News page, it popped my name in the corner - so if Yahoo has a cookie set on the target user's computer, they can figure out who they are... But IIRC you don't have to be registered.

Let's just test it. You post a link to a random article, and we'll click and see if we can reach it. :)
