In movie trailers they usually reveal the gags, right? Well in the Atlantis trailer, there are no gags whatsoever. Did Disney leave an important element out of this movie, humor?

I would be very surprised if it is completely lacking in humor, but the film is not intended to be a comedy. The trailer is designed to emphasize the action/adventure focus of the film. Filling it with gags would likely give the wrong impression.

I think the trailer for this one is actually one of the most effective trailers I've seen in a while.

I so agree with Jeff. If the purpose of a trailer is to get you to stand in line and plop down your $7.00, $10.00 or even $20.00 to see a movie, then the Atlantis trailer is right up there with the Episode One and Lord of the Rings trilogy trailers in my book.

We just got the Emperor's New Groove DVD yesterday, and the Atlantis trailer is one of the bonus tracks. I haven't watched ENG yet, but I've seen the trailer twice. ;o)

Did I say trailer? I ment the commercials too.

I agree with AVP and JeffG. It looks very intense for a purpose. Though judging from the kind of person the main character is (nerd type), i would bet that they would use that to bring some clumsyness humor to the film. Just a guess.

Everytime I see the preview for Atlantis, it is a great trailer that gets sandwiched between Final Fantasy and Shrek, both of which look more entertaining and technically more stunning. Not to say any of them are going to be better than Atlantis, but the trailers suggest they are much more impressive. I guess the final word will be said at the box office and with the critics, but based on reaction of people in the theaters, Shrek looks like it will be a runaway hit, Final Fantasy looks like it will do a blockbuster take as far as animated features go, but Atlantis looks like it will only do okay. There was not much excitement from anyone in the theater and even a few groans.

That's the vibe I'm getting from the general public, too.

I haven't gotten to see the trailer in theaters yet (though I have downloaded all of them from the net ;) ). The last time I went to the movies, when I took my little bro to see Pokemon 3 (now there's a scuzzy kid's movie, and this coming from a one-time Pokemon fan), I saw trailers for Final Fantasy and Shrek but not Atlantis. I didn't notice at the time though, as I was waiting to see if they'd show the Harry Potter trailer (which they didn't... :( )

I've just been hearing the hype about Shrek and FF everywhere, most people excited about Shrek because it's funny and jabs endlessly at Disney, and FF because it looks so realistic. What, did people lose faith in Atlantis simply because they lost faith in Disney animation? Are you supposed to be ashamed of yourself or something if you're over age 7 and want to see a Disney film? I don't get it.

As hyped as Final Fantasy is, and as awesome as it looks, the fact of the matter is that the main audience for animated features, whether they be CGed or hand-drawn, is still kids. And this isn't a kids' film. It looks too dark and complex for younger viewers, and it doesn't have the same sort of eye-popping palette you'd get in, say, a Pixar film (who is still Lord and Master of all CG animation studios). Yet Atlantis still has the Disney name on it, and though the film may deviate from their standard formula, that name alone is sure to reel in a lot of kids...

I'd like to see all three of those movies, but the one I'm really excited about is Atlantis. I always root for the underdog. :)
