Since MousePlanet upgraded to the latest version of vBulletin for our MousePad discussion boards, some members have complained that the boards are running slower than they did using the old system.
While we hear you, and some of the staffers are experiencing the same issues, we have done just about everything we can on this end to optimize MousePad performance. We have disabled some of the more resource-intensive features, and have delayed the deployment of other features for the time being. Oddly enough, our system performance numbers are better than they were under the old version, and on paper MousePad is running better than it used to.
What we're dealing with now is something that only a new server with more memory can fix. And we are looking forward to replacing our current 3-year old server just as soon as our current hosting contract expires. Until then, this is about as good as it's going to get.
Fortunately, There are some things that you as a user can do to help improve the speed of the pad. I am creating this Sticky thread as a place to post all such advice. This is NOT a discussion thread, and it is closed for posts from everyone except Moderators. If you have a suggestion to be added to this list, please PM or e-mail a Moderator.

From the "User CP" link at the top left of the header bar, click on "Edit Options." There are three changes you can make here which will significantly improve the speed of your MousePad sessions:
1) Deselect "Show Signatures" and "Show Images (including attached images and images in code)" This will prevent smileys, .sig files and inline images from appearing in the posts you read, which will increase speed.
Note - the multi-color, multi-font, multi-size, smiley-filled posts and signature make for really big files. You can help the overall site performance by sticking with plain black text.
2) For "Thread Display Mode", choose "Linear." The new "Threaded" and "Hybrid" options take longer to load, and are part of the memory issue we're dealing with right now.
3) For "Message Editor Interface" choose "Basic Editor." The WYSIWYG editor takes longer to load. Since this new system has the "Quick Reply" feature, a message editor box now loads on every thread screen.
From any thread screen:
4) Close / collapse the "Quick Reply" box by clicking on the blue icon ([img]http://mousepad.mouseplanet.com/images/buttons/collapse_tcat.gif) in the right corner of the Quick Reply section.

We'll add more suggestions as we come across them. Please be patient, as we are working to move to a new server just as fast as we can.
