Now that you have had some time to play with the features of the new board, we are putting one aspect up for vote.

The new mouseover feature - which generates a pop-up box when you put your mouse on the title of a thread - has generated a number of complaints from members.
Some browsers display the text instantly, with no delay.
The pop-up window can block other text on the main screen.
The pop-up window is too small in some browsers, and runs off the page.
Some browsers do not support the feature at all, so some members never see them.
"Spoilers" included in the mouseover text are not hidden, due to a vB issue that we can not fix.
We can disable the feature, but it is an all-or-nothing decision. If we disable it, it will remain disabled for everyone. I should also note that there will be no change to system performance if this feature is disabled - it is not resource-intensive, and MousePad will not run any faster or slower with it disabled.

Please vote your preference. The poll will remain open for 72 hours. If the vote is to disable the feature, it will be disabled sometime Monday.

This is not a discussion thread - if you have questions about vB, please use the existing threads. Thanks!

I voted yes, even through I really don't care. If a pop-up bothers me, I move my mouse over to the right. But, there was no ambivilant vote.

I'm indecisive - Anyone want to lobby me?

I voted yes. I have yet to really use the feature, and while it's not all THAT annoying to have to move my mouse off to the side, given the choice I'd rather not have to.

Since there's no "I don't care" option, I'm leaving it up to all of you.

I'm abstaining because my Web browser of choice (http://www.opera.com/) doesn't show the tooltips. I like the idea in theory but haven't experienced it.

I'm not going to vote because my vote is for: doesn't matter. :) Helpful, aren't I.

I guess if it bugs some people, then take it off. There are other features I'd rather have then that one.

Remember this isn't a discussion thread. Please just vote.

One piece of information for those feeling ambivelent however. For a very small portion of the membership (certain browsers on Macintosh platform), these popups work incorrectly. They appear with zero delay so as their mouse moves around the screen the pop-ups are constantly popping.

Balancing that large inconvenience to a small proportion of users, is a larger proportion experiencing a benefit by being able to tell up front if they have an interest in a thread.

As a mac user, I don't think I'm having any delays or errors with using the mouseovers. It comes up quickly & blocks a portion of the window. :D

Leave it on. If it meets the accepted HTML standards, the browser that goofs it up is broken. :geek: Not that Microsoft has ever deliberately broken or ignored the standards before...

And people will have to learn (or be told) not to put any spoilers in the first hundred characters or so of the first post of the thread, far enough down so it is past the cutoff point of the pop-up box.

There are times when the fancy features are useful - as long as the server has the horsepower to do it all, and they don't make the pages load glacially slow for users still afflicted with the dreaded "dial-up connection" disease...

(Doesn't bother me, I have DSL!) :p

So, if it is a tie are you going to enable the feature only half the time? :)

Well, this wasn't the overwhelming "voter mandate" that we expected. In fact, we left the poll open a whole extra day to allow more people to participate, but here we are again - another tie.

Since those who voted are equally split, and since these do seem to be a real problem for users from some platforms / browsers, we are going to go ahead and disable them for now. If vB makes this a user-configurable feature, or we can find some other way to disable them for certain users, we'll bring them back.

And, as with all elections, if you didn't vote you don't get to complain. I expect to see no more than 29 "Hey, that's not fair!" messages.

Happy dance. :D

(Oops, that's not grave dancing is it? ;) )
