Is the Disney Club still functioning? I had received a notice a year ago that it was going to be discontinued. I had been a member of that and the Magic Kingdom Club for years.

Has anything replaced it?

I too was a Disney Club member-- no it is not around anymore. It was replaced by the Disney Visa Card which means nothing to me since I have no interest in another credit card (even a Disney one).

Please Disney, bring the Disney Club back!

I'm sure Disney calculated that there was A LOT more money to be made by doing this, but why couldn't they have both?

boy you nailed this one. Disney makes money on EVERY transaction. meanwhile the operation of the Disney club cost them money. that is to say cost them money in the eyes of the bean counters. they figure you will still come to WDW even without the card, so why give you a discount.

First Jim, let me say welcome! Its great to see another upstate NYer on the boards (I'm in CP)...yes, the Disney Visa is "supposed" to replace the Disney Club, but we all know that it doesn't even come close. Honestly, I have found that an Annual Pass gives you way more perks than the Visa card - yes, I have both :( You can get room discounts and some restaurant discounts with an annual pass, and even 10% off at The World of Disney in DTD. Its worked out great for me, but has also made me justify 4 trips to WDW last year - just to get my money's worth of course. :)

Thanks Bellefan! I would be interested in where you are in Upstate NY. If you want you can send me a message @ james.w.pertierra@verizon.com so we don't mess up the board.

I first got into the Magic Kingdom Club when I started to work for New York Telephone in 1978 and then converted to the Disney Club when they did. My wife and I both have the Visa Card but rarely use it because of the rates.

I had an annual pass for a year, but, unfortunately, we don't have a trip in sight until 2005 (our 25th anniversary and our oldest's high school graduation). That's why Mouse Pad and the trip reports are so important to me. Withdrawal.

I bought our annual passes in the Summer of 2000 knowing that we were going in April of 2001 and February of 2002 so our trips would encompass one year. What is the policy now? Is the card activated upon purchase or upon activation? If there are benefits to the annual pass (rather than length of stay) even if we would only be using it once in a year, then it would be worth the price.

Thanks for everyone's feedback.
Best/Jim

I actually bought my Annual Pass at the Disney Store at Crossgates and it didn't get activated until I got to the parks - you have to go to the Member Services window to get it set up. And you don't need to have it activated to make hotel reservations. I'm a big fan of park hopping so for me, its worth not using an extra day to have breakfast in the Magic Kingdom and dinner at MGM. You can also get a 10% discount on any weekday lunch at EPCOT and various other discounts - like DTD store or entrance to Disney Quest, as well as all those neat Passholder pins! I think in the long run, its cost me more money than I saved because of all the "justified" spending. ;)

Belle Fan. I bought mine by mail originally and took a year before I activated them. I might just buy one (instead of the 5 I need) in order to get on the mailing list again for the rates.

I was hired to work at the Crossgates Store when it opened. Didn't do it because I was very tied up with Little League and CYO basketball with my sons and it would have meant less time to spend with them and Janet.

Send me a note sometime as I am trying to get an informal meet together with the Capital District people. I am finding more and more of us on here.

Jim, as an FYI, you can get the AP rates at mousesavers.com before you buy the pass.

The thing I miss most about DC (other than the nifty card w/Walt & Mickey on it) is the 10% discount at the Disney store. My daughter loves the Disney Store and there is no telling how much $$ I saved.

I also missed the 10% you could save in virtually every store in DL.

I agree with you about the Disney Club card.

Mine has the 7 Dwarves on it. I kept it just in case!

Hi Jim, good to see you posting again.

You won't get the Mickey Monitor until you activate the pass. However, as wwithers stated above, you can see the AP rates over at MouseSavers (http://www.mousesavers.com).

Let me know when you're getting ready to schedule it. You could probably post an organizational thread on the Pad.

Mark,
I sure will.

Probably be doing something in the late Spring and early summer. I know of at least 4 other "maniacs" in the Capital District.

Any others, step forward!

As members of DVC we get a 10% discount on the Ultimate Park Hoppers but does anyone know if we would get a discount purchasing the AP? It seems to me if they are making more money they might do this? Am I the only one that finds it strange that as DVC members we get a 10% discount at Disney Stores EXCEPT the World of Disney Store in Downtown Disney?

Nope. Only discount is the advance purchase discount.

If it were ten years ago, I'd find it strange. With today's Walt Disney Company, no. :(
