This is sensitive, I know, but the question still occurs to me.

I'm curious whether there is any support for the SaveDisney.com efforts from Walt Disney's surviving daughter Diane Disney Miller and Walt's son-in-law and former Disney CEO (before Michael Eisner and Frank Wells came on in 1984) Ron Miller? Diane Disney Miller is behind the "Walt Disney: The Man Behind the Myth" ABC-TV special that became a home video and book, and isn't she behind the Disney Museum part of Disney.com (SaveDisney.com links to it)? And I have read "Storming the Magic Kingdom" and know about Ron Miller's departure as head of Disney in '84. Things seem very quiet from this part of the family. I would expect some "laying low" under the circumstances out of gracefulness and out of knowing what the past had been like for their family. Was just curious to know if they were supportive or not.

Fascinating question. My guess would be that after Roy's ouster of Ron Miller, they probably don't talk all that much.

They may be enjoying the whole mess - given that Roy pushed out Miller to bring in Eisner and is now lying in the bed he made.

OTOH, maybe they are feeling supportive but don't want to rehash the above in the media, which public voicing of their support would be bound to do.

Then again... so would publicly opposing.

Tough question. But a good one.

Back in 1980, I was so motivated by my years of seeing Disney theatrical releases and re-releases, enjoying the New Mickey Mouse Club on TV, going to Disneyland, and reading books about Walt Disney, that I wrote a letter to Ron Miller - just a friendly little note from a young guy who loved Disney films of the 70s and was looking forward to what the 80s promised.

Can you believe the man actually took the time to respond to my letter, answering my questions and discussing some of my topics point by point, and signed his name, not in a stamped form letter signature, but a real handsigned ink signature? It really impressed me with him, and bespoke of Miller's honoring his father-in-law's legacy.

Anyone think Eisner would EVER have responded to my letter with anything but a standard corporate form letter, let alone taken enough time out of his day to write a PERSONAL response? I doubt it, but hey, maybe somebody out there got such a letter.

No doubt a tiny voice in the back of Roy's mind is saying "worst idea you ever had in your life, bringing in that moneygrubbing jerk".

PapiBear from Houston: I guess Roy Disney may have heard that voice of regret you mentioned and he's trying to repair that situation now. If that is what's inside him, the idea of trying to repair, then this is a rather outstanding demonstration of character Roy is showing the world. And Papi, that story you told of the letter Ron Miller sent you, that was great to hear. Thanks for posting it. :)
