I have an uncle who does some selling for a firm and they've been doing a little buisness with Disney and selling some of their animation equipment (WHICH IS A CRYING SHAME!!:crying: ). He found himself down in Burbank this weekend. There he was bustling about the building when he ran into someone. Mr.Eisner, is who he sees, with a very worried look apon his face.
As my uncle went about his work there was some chater going on in one of the rooms. He said they sounded like big-wigs and they were talking very gravely about Michael. Uncle said that Eisner is running scared and out the door.
I feel a change in the wind:fez: :fez:

...where the good Lord split ya.

(Have to complete the phrase... )

I think it's time for Mr. Eisner to go - he's made enough enemies for one company.

If he leaves soon, I wouldn't be surprised if Pixar and LucasFilms (among others) start talking to Disney again. Pixar to renew the existing deal or strike a new one with minor changes, Lucas to make a new ride movie or two for Star Tours...

This would indeed be wonderful news.

Maybe Eisner will resign at the shareholders meeting in March.

Am I the only one who doesn't believe this story? That's why I used the word "rumor". Just a fun little rumor to brighten your day.

After reading stuff on Disney sites for a few years now I know exaclty how to deal with rumors. I keep my grains of salt handy. :D

One... how about MULTIPLE, he got a BIG Double Whammy...

First, the Comcast announcement of a hostile takeover...

Second, ISS (Institutional Shareholder Services) saying...

"While Mr. Eisner may indeed be trying, he still hasn't gotten it quite right. Sadly, it has often appeared that reconstituting the board was aimed more at quieting healthy boardroom dissent rather than creating it," ISS said.

It said the lines between management and the board were blurred and that the positions of chief executive and chairman should be separated.

"If there were ever a case for separating the roles of Chairman and CEO, this company is the poster child," it said.

But you have to love the official response to the news from the Walt Disney Company, in form of a press release...

"While we welcome ISS' recommendations with respect to our non-management directors, we find its position inexplicable and unjustified with respect to Michael Eisner, since he led the very changes that resulted in a board dominated by independent directors. The Walt Disney Board exceeds the guidelines set by the NYSE with respect to corporate governance standards, and this would not have been possible without Michael Eisner's commitment to governance and transparency."

Ask the folks who were let go off the board......

And isn't the SEC looking into viloations of the independent guidelines?????

Triple, even, with the death of a costumed worker in Florida.

I mean, how do you go out in public after a day like he's had?

Awful thought: what if he accepts the sale just to flip the proverbial bird to Roy and Stan?

Have you seen the comments by Roy and Stan re the Comcast takeover offer...

Burbank, CA -- February 11, 2004 -- Roy E. Disney and Stanley Gold said that "the Comcast presentation today highlighted many of the same issues that we have raised for weeks with shareholders. The areas Comcast listed as needing improvement are basically the same ones we have highlighted - animation, the theme parks, ABC and the ABC Family Channel.

"We have long maintained that the inherent value in Disney's assets has not been realized by current management and that this Board has failed to take the necessary steps to restore long- term shareholder value and to hold management accountable for its failures," Messrs. Disney and Gold said. "We believe those failures have made Disney an attractive target for those that recognize, as we do, that with the right leadership the extremely valuable assets of Disney can be properly utilized to create lasting and significant value.

"Today's action by Comcast makes it more important than ever that shareholders send a message to management and the Board by withholding their votes on Michael Eisner, John Bryson, George Mitchell and Judith Estrin. Disney's shareholders deserve a board that looks at what is best for the company and its shareholders," they stated.

I thought about this thread this morning as I read that Comcast had made a proposal to Eisner earlier this week; it is only wednesday, and things are moving fast. Anyone know exactly when the first proposal was made? I thought Eisner dropped the Microsoft name to bolster stock and strengthen his counterattack on Roy and Stan (and jab at Jobs in the process) but I think everyone now knows the real reason. I think Roy and Stan have been vindicated; anyone who questioned their reasoning, credibility or motives has just been handed a reality check. The company has been on shaky ground for a long time, and it's very sad to see.
