LEGOLAND® CALIFORNIA OPENS FIRST OF FIVE NEW ATTRACTIONS FOR 2004!
Presidents Built out of LEGO Bricks in Time for Presidents Day

CARLSBAD, Calif. (Jan. 15, 2004) - Abraham Lincoln, George Washington, Marilyn Monroe, Albert Einstein and Arnold Schwarzenegger will be there. So will other famous icons as they become immortalized at LEGOLAND* California's all new Block of Fame debuting Presidents Day weekend, Feb. 13-16. The life-size busts on pedastals are replicated in amazing detail in LEGO* bricks for the theme park's newest attraction.

The Block of Fame transforms a winding, tree-lined walkway into a fun and educational three-dimensional gallery. The new attraction will put guests literally face-to-face with historical and popular personalities who figure prominently in world culture. It has taken LEGOLAND Master Model Builders more than 40 hours to design, plot and create each bust. More than five-thousand standard LEGO bricks and plates were used to create Lincoln alone. The collection of busts also will include William Shakespeare, Elvis Presley and Ludwig Van Beethoven. "The great thing about this attraction is that it shows the endless possibilities of building with LEGO bricks," said President and General Manager John Jakobsen. "We will continually be adding to the collection to include other key historical and pop culture figures."

The LEGO luminaries will flank the path leading up to a scenic lookout point where The Art of LEGO gallery will present a whimsical and fascinating LEGOLAND version of world-renown art. Leonardo da Vinci's "Mona Lisa", Rodan's "The Thinker", Vincent Van Gogh's "Starry Night" and Salvador Dali's "Persistence of Memory" are among the classic selections recreated in regulation LEGO bricks.

To mark the opening of both the Block of Fame and The Art of LEGO gallery, LEGOLAND guests will attempt to build the LEGO World Record Tower for entry in the Guinness Book of World Records. Records have been set around the world including Russia, Australia, China, Turkey and Denmark where the existing record was set this past June at LEGOLAND* Billund. That tower was 89.3 feet high and made out of 500,000 LEGO bricks. The attempt at a new record will begin at LEGOLAND California Thursday, Feb. 12 and the last LEGO brick will be placed by 2 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 16.

Five attractions will be unveiled in 2004 to commemorate the fifth birthday of LEGOLAND California. The additions will feature something for everyone in the family. There will be a new area to the famed Miniland USA, a new junior roller coaster, a sand excavation attraction and an interactive firefighter racing ride. Photos are available.

LEGOLAND California is a 128-acre family theme park dedicated to families with children between the ages of 2 and 12. Just like with LEGO toys, kids are the ones who make things happen at the Park. They drive, pedal, squirt, climb, jump, stomp, slide, steer, pull, click, push, gallop, laugh, build and program their way through more than 50 rides and attractions. There are only three other LEGOLAND parks in the world -- LEGOLAND® Billund in Denmark, LEGOLAND® Windsor outside of London and LEGOLAND® Deutschland near Günzburg, Germany.
