I'm a single dad taking my daughters, ages 9 and 15, on the March 13, '04 Western Carribean. We've never been on a cruise before, singly or together. I plan on spending most of my time with my girls, but assume they'll dump me here and there. Does anyone have experiences alone? What are the clubs like? I'm not looking to meet anyone, but want to avoid "weird" situations (dinner for one at Palo is definately out). Suggestions?

The clubs are great and the first few nights they have a single parent/single traveler meet in one of the lounges or clubs (you are not alone). Your 15-year old will love Common Grounds and the 9-year-old will probably spend a lot of time in the Oceaneer's Lab.
There are a lot of adult-only actvities and games during the day and into the evening (lectures, games, singalongs, fitness). You can get a massage, workout, read a book at Quiet Cove pool, I think they show sports in one of the lounges if you are interested.
And they have family activities for when your kids are with you.

Bon Voyage!

Your question reminds me of when my single father took my sister and I on the BIG RED BOAT (the boat that was in the Disney land/sea packages in the late 1980's & early 1990's). I was 14 and my sister was 12. While we did do a lot of the activities geared for our age group on the boat, we did spend a lot of time with our father. I think knowing he would be alone. I am glad we did too. 12 years later I look back on that cruise as special. I have been on the DCL boat The Wonder recently and there is many things to do with your daughters. Maybe before hand stress to them that you'd like to do a few things every day together, even if they want to go hang out in the kids/teens areas. They will appreciate you asking later on in life, if not then on the boat ;)

Things I think would be fun to do with my dad on the boat (at the 9-15 age range):

~All the stage shows
~Any island excursions...look for any Dolphin swimming excursions or boat rides, like the glass bottom boat.
~Take the girls to the Spa on board to let them get pedicures and maybe to get their hair done for a family picture (there is ton of professional picture oppurtunities)
~Make it a priority to eat dinner together no matter what. The restaurants are awesome. This is a great time to talk.
~Pool time, with an ice cream bar right there.
~Take them on a mini shopping spree in one of the Disney shops on board. To bring souveniers back home to their friends and family. Girls love to shop.
~Movies on board. They are 1st rate too!!
~Exploring the ship and walking around (bring your camera)
~Prior to boarding th ship you can have your cabin decorated for the "Bon Voyage" or have chocolates waiting for you. Starts the trip off with that special feeling. There is a catalog of stuff to preorder.

I am sure there is many other things to do with your daughter. Those just stood out as things I would have done with my dad. When we were out with our "groups" my dad read books and went to get massage at the Spa. I believe there is also Bingo on board and you can win money. May come in handy for the shopping!! Hope this helps a little!
