View Full Version : Quick solo trip
Pirate33 01-07-2004, 11:46 AM Hello all. I am an American businessman and also a Disney fan. I have the rare opportunity to visit DL Paris -- the first time in over 10 years. I'll be travelling alone and able to spend 1 1/2 days there -- 2 nights in the hotel. From what I've read, the Hotel NY looks like the best place for me in terms of value and reasonably adult atmosphere -- I'd also like a reasonably nice place near the park. The DL Hotel seems a bit too pricey.
Any tips on "must sees" while I'm there. I want to see Phantom Manor and the sword fights on Pirates, and also Space Mountain. I've only been to DL Anaheim -- many, many times -- and DL Paris once before. Never been to Disney World, and it looks like there are some DW ride copies in DL Paris. I don't want to miss anything super special that Paris has to offer. The last time I visited, I didn't go to Phantom Manor, not knowing that it was different than all the other Haunted Mansions.
Finally, any tips on booking a discounted room at the Disney hotels? They seem rather pricey! Thanks much!!
Not Afraid 01-07-2004, 12:03 PM The hotels at DLP are in three tiers: Expensive, Moderate and Inexpensive. THe hotels fall into these categories:
Expensive: Disneyland Hotel and Hotel New York
Moderate: Newport Bay Club & Sequoia Lodge
Inexpensive: Santa Fe and Cheyenne
I have stayed at the Sequoia and found it to be quite a nice hotel. The Newport is also a wonderful hotel. I would be very happy staying in either moderate hotel again. The expensice hotels are spectacular, but not necessary if you are on a budget. I would definately stay on property. There's nothing like it to absorb the atmosphere.
As for don't-miss attractions: Big Thunder, Space Mountain, Pirates,
I loved the Nautilus Walk Thru, Le Visionarium, Mad Hatter's Tea Cups, Alice's Curious Labyrinth and StoryBook Land. Casy Jr. is much different and very fun too.
Skip Indy - it's really painful!
Spend some quality in and under the castle. See the Tarzan show. Explore Adventure Isle - it is very cool!
I love this park....I'm very jealous you are visiting DLP. Have fun!

Tutter 01-07-2004, 02:10 PM I've stayed at The Hotel New York and Sequoia Lodge and out of those two I'd go for Sequoia Lodge to be honest. Hotel new York didnt really offer anything more and they are right beside each other.
Newport Bay is also right there as well and I hear good reports about it so I'd try that myself next time.
Phantom Manor is much like Haunted mansion but with a different story line - I love it - Pirates of course and Space Mountain (look for the "D" all over it including the ride cars as it was going to be called "Discovery Mountain" originally.
Also - remember to go and visit the Dragon that lurks in the dungeons of The Castle - I love that so much.
And you may even want to venture to the Rock n Roller Coaster in Disney Studios park.
spectromen 01-07-2004, 03:03 PM By all means, ride Phantom Manor - and several times, at that. Great ride. Also, if Fantillusion is playing, see it. It's only a shell of the original Tokyo version but since that's gone now, it's better than nothing.
innerSpaceman 01-07-2004, 04:42 PM I will say one thing in favor of Hotel New York: Location, location, location. It is by far the closest hotel to Disneyland (excepting the actual Disneyland Hotel).
And, at this time of year, it's got the skating rink (though you don't need to be a guest to enjoy that).
Green apple sorbet from the Ice Cream shop on Main Street.
Gauffres from any of the ODV carts.
Same thing with baked potatos.
And did I mention crepes? With Nutella and chantilly creme?
(I swear, I do nothing but eat when I visit Disneyland Paris, and I always lose weight. It must be that whole "vacation calories don't count" thing.)

I am very excited, too! And I don't have long to wait ... it's a business trip so only a couple of weeks away.
I have to say I'm very surprised to read about Indy. The ride at Cal. DL is so fantastic. What a surprise to read about the Paris version.
innerSpaceman 01-07-2004, 05:56 PM Ah, but despite the similarities in name, they are two attractions that could hardly be more different from each other (although someone on earth might get a brain anuerism from either one).
Indy at DLP is a backwards, looping rollercoaster that has been known to cause back pain in many riders (though not yours truly).
Indy at DL is, of course, an immersive dark ride experience in a rough-riding jeep-like vehicle.
The stateside attraction is worth a long wait in the highly enjoyable queue. The french attraction is not worth more than a five minute wait, as it provides all of 30 seconds worth of fun.
Oh, and AVP is so right about green apple sorbet on Main Street.
Colin 01-11-2004, 04:32 AM Dont forget the Studios, Must sees are Animagique, Cinemagique and the Stunt show. You should also be sure to ride Rock 'n Rollercoaster, it is different in quite alot of ways to the Florida one I am told!
I am assuming you will be booking a package on the room including, but if not you can bu a 2 day hopper for €88. I dont know if you have considered staying in one of the Val d'Europe hotels (Disney Selected so still themed), but the Kyriad in particular can work out to be very cheap. You can book it directly through them at www.kyriad.fr and I found the rooms to be very nice, and it helps that it is still on site, you even have a free shuttle bus to the parks :) There is Holiday Inn at www.holidayinn.com and also there is the MyTravel Explorers Hotel which is also online, but I cant remember the address. I will post it when I find it :)
Hope this is some help to you,
Colin

We have stayed there twice, and I really like this property. (Assuming they have completed their remodel - the pool was out of order on our last trip, and the construction noise was annoying)

hihat 01-21-2004, 07:33 AM Just so that you guys know the Tarzan Spectacular is no longer showing at Chapparal Stage, the current show is Mickey's Winter Wonderland until Feb 29th, no shows are planned at Chapparal Stage through March, however elsewhere in the Park it will be the start of the festivities for the Lion King : The Circle of Life Celebration at Central Plaza and Simba's FiRAORworks!
innerSpaceman 01-21-2004, 12:04 PM Arrgh. The Tazan Spectacular was the single most excellent stage production I have EVER seen put on at a Disney theme park anywhere in the world.
Oh well, not that I'm headed back to Paris anytime soon. (But I can always dream.)
