My first post here, thought I'd throw it in the DCL discussion. Like most here, I'm a Disney nut, living in the Southern California area. I've been to DL more times than I can count, and am one of the few who actually LIKE the DCA park as well!
5 years ago I married my wife, and we opted to take our honeymoon at WDW. Since that was the inaugural year of the DCL, we decided to give it a try, and do a 3 day cruise, 4 day land adventure. WHAT A BLAST!
We've heard bad things about other cruises, but figured Disney could overcome that. We weren't disappointed. There were no casino's, no "Vegas" style shows, and smoking was limited to small sections outside of the ship. Granted, we were only on it for 3 days, but it was most certainly the best 3 days of the vacation. That's not taking anything away from the park, but the cruise really impressed us.
In fact, it impressed us so much, that this past September, my wife and I celebrated our 5 year anniversary with a 7 day Eastern Caribbean cruise! We were stunned at how much they had added on to everything, and were even more excited about the changes coming to the Disney Magic (ours was the last cruise before the ship went into drydock). They're adding a coffee bar on deck, and moving the teen area into the ESPN zone (bah, I'll miss my sports!), and lots of stuff they weren't allowed to tell us.
We made the mistake of doing the early dinner seating, because on the previous cruise we took, the shows were after each dinner. Now the 8 pm dinner seating people see the show BEFORE eating, and the 6 pm seating sees it after dinner. We won't make that mistake again.
The highlight of our cruise this year was on the island of St. John, when we went swimming with the dolphins with Dolphin Fantaseas.
The biggest thing we did though, was attend a Disney Vacation Club information meeting. We had thought about doing this on our first cruise, but had decided not to for some stupid reason. This time though, we sat through the meeting, and listened to what they had to say. Granted, it was a timeshare, so I was a bit skeptical, and was completely prepared to fend off the beady eyed salesman. To my surprise, it wasn't like that at all. All they did, was show us what the DVC was and what it cost. It was only AFTER we had decided to join that we were informed of the $2100 credit for joining while on the cruise. So, yeah, we're now owners of a timeshare at the new Saratoga Springs resort.
I've already booked a week long stay at WDW next November, and we're doing another 7 day cruise early the following year.
Sorry to ramble on, but for anyone that is even remotely interested in going on a cruise with Disney, DO IT! You will NOT be sorry you payed the money for this. The food is incredible, the service impeccable, and the experience magical. Sheesh, I sound like an ad...
