Hello!

I'm trying to think of ways to entertain/occupy my kids on the 5 hour flight from CA to FL. (They are 8 & 6) They each have a back pack as a carry-on filled with:

*Gameboys
*Birnbaum's Guide to WDW for kids (so they can plan & research)
*paper
*markers
*Mad Libs
*Bubble gum (for take-off & landing)

My 8 year-old should do fine, but my 6 year old gets bored easily.

Any suggestions?

 Thanks! Coralmommy

before you leave pick out a few surprises for them. a new game for their game boy, or a new book/coloring book. put them in their bags, or in yout bag. then once every hour or hour and a half bring out the item.

if you don't want to do that then what ever they pack you should ration. if a child is prone to move quickly from one thing to the next then they will most likely go through all the stuff they packed quickly and be bored after the first hour. but if mom controls when they get access to new stuff then it will last longer.

but it is the trip home that is by far harder IMHO.

the best solution is a late night flight and tired kids;)

Lots of snacks :) and last summer while taking our 6 year old to Hawaii (direct flight from Az that lasted about 6 hours straight) we brought some workbooks and word searches.

Oh and books are nice. My 6 year old loves "Magic Treehouse" chapter books. They are at Target (and other books stores) and are not pricey at all.

1. Extra batteries.
2. Walkman. (Headphones can be used for the movie for free, if it's appropriate.)
3. The book about WDW will be perfect. Hopefully it will note the difference between WDW and DLR. Your kids might not need to see certain attractions that are replicated.

Try Kidstravel: A Backseat Survival Guide/Includes Book, Pad, and Pouch With Game Pieces by Klutz (available from Amazon). Other good books like this one are also available. My kids really enjoyed this. Good luck! Sharon

I me, too, the snacks suggestion: goldfish crackers, juice boxes, fruit snacks, etc. My husband had a recent flight that was very short but there was so much turbulance that the flight attendants weren't allowed to walk around and pass out drinks. If you have your own snacks, you won't be "at their mercy."

I don't know from which airport you are flying in California, but San Diego and San Francisco offer InMotion DVD rentals (you rent a machine and DVDs) which pick up at your departure and drop at Orlando when you arrive.

Elly: Great suggestion! Also, if you have a laptop with a DVD player in it, that would work too. Bring your batteries all charged up, recharge them in Orlando and you're good to go coming home, too.
