View Full Version : What cell phone do you have?
HB Tigger Fan 12-12-2003, 09:30 AM Not carrier. Actual phone.
Do you like it? How are the features? Ease of use?
I have a Motorola v60i. The antenna has broke once and it's a PITA to keep in my pocket. I won't be getting another one. The features are nothing special but it's easy to use.
Not Afraid 12-12-2003, 09:47 AM I have a Nokie 6360. I love my phone, but it's getting a bit beat up. I have been looking for an upgrade, but I can't find another Nokia with an infrared - which I MUST have. Plus, we have two of the same phones in our household - it makes for switching accessories (or batteries) very easy!
BTW, I will ONLY buy Nokias. I have had a cell phone for 6 years and many different brands. Nokia is the best - of has been for me. Enough for me to have severe brand loyalty.
Andrew 12-12-2003, 10:19 AM I have an LG 5350 (http://www.freecellphonesguy.com/images/free_cell_phones_lg_5350.jpg) with service from Sprint PCS. I got it after a fellow Padder recommended it to me. It's a little too small for comfortable speaking, but fits in my pocket perfectly. A really nice feature is the ability to function as a (relatively) high-speed modem when used with a USB cable connected to my laptop.
Demigod121 12-12-2003, 10:22 AM I currently have a Nokia 3395 - I did have a Motorola T120 - but my wife has it now... :(
I liked the phone, but the service (Verizon) sucked.
Anyways...I have in reserve a Motorola V60i (work provided).

DisneyFan25863 12-12-2003, 12:01 PM I have the Sanyo 8100 (http://sanyo.com/wireless/handsets/scp-8100.htm) photo phone. I love it. I really like that it has a full html complaint web browser, and full PC connectivity. It uses the 3G network for data communication, so it has relitavity high internet speeds whenether from the phone or when connected to a computer.

I just got a Nokia 6560 (http://www.nokiausa.com/phones/6560). It has infrared. I like it a lot.
My last phone was a Motorola V60. I liked it a lot too, until the first time the antenna broke.
I was worried that a phone with an internal antenna (like the one I have now) wouldn't get good reception, but it does....and I don't have to worry about the crappy antenna breaking. And mine only broke twice in the year and a half that I had it. Napsto had it much, much worse when he had a V60, I lost track of how many times his antenna broke.
Bill Catherall 12-12-2003, 12:41 PM I have a Motorola i90c. It's a flip phone that has a built in speakerphone so I can talk hands free without attachments. It also has voice recognition for hands free dialing. No color, no camera. Didn't want/need those features.
But it is capable of other things that I currently don't use, but could pay for if I wanted them. Including Nextel Network access, text messaging, even using it as a wireless modem for a notebook computer. It can download and play games, ringtones, and other Java applications (calculator, finance, etc.).
It also does that little walky talky thing.
I'm pretty happy with it. (And yes, I do keep it clipped to my belt. Not Afraid tells me this is a fashion no no. Oh well. Batman had lots of accessories attached to his belt. ;) )

You and cemeinke are cut from the same cloth.
Even Carson said: "A cell phone is NOT an accessory". (What's more surprising is that I know that!)
I just got a Nokia 6560. It has infrared. I like it a lot.
OK. I was looking at this one on-line today. I was spinning it around, examining at the top and I was almost positive that there was a little infrrared "thingie" on the top. However, when I called AT&T, they told me that there was NO infrared on that phone.
This is not rocket science, folks! Can we get some real (ie: correct) information?

I've never used the infrared (ok, so I'm not exactly sure what it does...so i could send my information to someone else or something?) but, on the menu, it has an "infrared" option.
And NEVER be surprised when you get incorrect information from AT&T wireless. :| I hate going in the store and crossing my fingers that the person who will (eventually) help me knows what s/he is talking about.

I use the infrared to transfer information to and from my PDA or to send information to Chris' cell. It's really the best little feature for me - with so many ways to communicate.
OK. I'm going down the same pather as GD. Hours and hours on the phone.
[edit] I just did a comparrison on the Nokia site and the site indicates that 6560 does NOT provide infrared transfer nor can it send Business Cards. What it uses the infrared for, I have no idea.

Well, that stinks. I just got the 6560 thinking the infrared would come in handy! I'll have to ask AT&T what the heck the infrared can do!

Please do and then tell me. I sent an email to Nokia asking for clarification, but haven't gotten a reply yet.
CoasterMatt 12-15-2003, 09:05 PM I've got an LG VX6000 - camera phone
My favorite thing with it is playing video poker on the way to and from work...

Here's what the User Guide says, I don't know if this clarifies anything or not....
The Infared port on your phone allows you to use your phone to connect to other IR-equipped phones. With this feature you can transfer business cards and calendar notes.
Note: you can use your phone to connect to any IR-equipped PC.
The User Guide can be downloaded here. (http://www.nokiausa.com/support/user_guides/download/1,6728,,00.html#6560)

That would have been funny! Unfortunately the phone is working, everywhere but a 2 mile radius around my place, so it's not the phone.
JeffG 12-16-2003, 03:21 PM I just purchased a Sony Ericsson T616.
I previously had been using a Palm Tungsten-W PDA/cell phone combination, but pretty much came to the conclusion after 9 months or so of use that the combining of a cell phone and PDA was a much better idea in theory than it is in practice. The PDA features tend to be somewhat compromised (the biggest problem with the T-W was that the long time to market for the combo units resulted in it being one of the last Palm OS4.x devices released) and the phone features don't work exceptionally well either. In particular, I've had a hard time finding security software that would keep my PDA data secure while not hindering the use/answering of the phone.
The main reason why I selected the T616 for my new phone was that it was the least expensive model AT&T Wireless offered that included Bluetooth networking. That feature will allow me to continue to use my PDA for wireless functions (email, web browsing, etc.) as long as it remains within 6 feet or so of the cell phone. Since the phone is small enough that it will probably pretty much always be in my pocket, that shouldn't be a problem at all. For the short term, I probably will continue to just move the SIM card over to the T-W for wireless features, though, as I don't really want to spend the $130 or so for the Palm Bluetooth adapter. In about a month or so (after I get an expected bonus check), I'm likely going to buy a Sony Clie UX-50 PDA, which has both Bluetooth and 802.11b Wi-Fi networking built-in.
So far, I'm pretty happy with the T616, although it is perhaps a tad bit smaller than I would have preferred for comfortable talking. The color screen and built-in camera are fun toys, although I can't really imagine that I will use them much. I do like the infrared port, which did allow me to very quickly and easily transfer all of my contacts from the Palm to the new phone. The phone also has a built-in calendar feature that I was also able to very easily synchronize with the Palm via infrared. The phone also came with software that would allow synchronizing the calendar with Outlook on a PC using either Bluetooth or a USB cable. I may pick up either the cable or a Bluetooth PC adapter eventually and play with this feature.
It really is pretty amazing how much the complexity of cell phones has advanced in just a few years. I think this phone is more powerful than my first PC... :)

Have you seen the new Sprint one that can do Videophone? (double drool) :geek:
mamabot 12-17-2003, 01:02 PM I have a Sony Ericsson T226 and I like it better than my old Nokia. The internal antenna is stronger and it has a color screen. I am still gettting used to the smaller keys and the joystick.
I have no need to send pictures on my phone. I already have a PDA (cannot imagine life without my Palm). And my kids would break a flip phone faster than I could say "Don't do that!".

I have this one too and I love it. It does more than I really need...but I'm learning to need those extra features. And it's cute too.:)

That would be me. :)
The 5350 is great little phone with some minimalist PDA features that proved to be quite handy. I recently lost it while riding Ghost Rider at Knotts on Halloween. Fortunately I got it back a couple of weeks later minus the battery (it was still functional once I replaced the battery), but I started looking into other phones and decided I had to have the Samsung i330 (http://www.samsungusa.com/images/prod/product03/b2c_l_sph_i330.jpg).
It's a PDA/phone combo running Palm OS 3.5. I was apprehensive about being able to use it as a phone effectively, but it has turned out to be quite comfortable to talk on. It is a little odd to dial with the touchscreen, but the button are big enough that misdialling is not an issue and with a screen protector I don't worry too much about scratching the screen. Being able to surf the web practically is a big plus for me and the built-in browser (Blazer) fits the bill nicely.
I will be keeping the 5350 as a backup, though.
