According to my sources within the corporation, Disney CEO Michael Eisner -- in a fit of pique -- allegedly ordered early last month that Roy E. Disney's name be stricken from the packaging of the "Disney Treasures" DVDs. And that -- in addition -- that supposedly an effort should be made to lessen and/or remove any additional references to any or all contributions that Walt's nephew had made to the Walt Disney Company.

Sounds kind of extreme, doesn't it? Well, this should give you some idea how long this feud between Michael and Roy has been festering. I mean, just because Roy E. Disney chose to officially announce his resignation from Disney's Board of Directors on Sunday, November 30th doesn't mean that things weren't terrible between these two for weeks (and even months!) before the mainstream press latched onto this story.

Now we know why we won't be getting Treasures for Xmas... Michael doesn't want us to!!!

And isn't this an affront to stockholders? How fiscally irreposbile is it to put ego over vital Christmas sales of these unique premium-priced titles?

I mean I was going to ask for all of them as gifts (and probably give some too). Now there is nothing from the WDC I want for the Holidays!

Crazy...

Jim Hill is an interesting writer at times (usually when writing about historical events), but his stories can sometimes be >very< far fetched. I'll openly admit that I have no specific information to refute the rumors he is reporting in this article, but I find them so ludicrous that they are essentially impossible to believe. This particular article may be the silliest rumor I have ever seen him repeat.

The silliest part of the whole article is Hill's goofy introduction where he seems to find some kind of contradiction in three separate statements from Disney that all pretty clearly state exactly the same thing, which is that the Treasures releases were delayed due to unavailability of the facilities to manufacture sufficient quantities on schedule.

Sometimes the most obvious explanation for a situation is the right one. I have little doubt that these DVDs were delayed because the demand for their two summer blockbusters used up the bulk of the available manufacturing resources. I believe that because it makes sense, it fits in with the way companies actually do business in the real world, and because that is what they >said< happened.

Very interesting. It wouldn't surprise me. Seems a bit extreme what with all the advertising involved with the disks. It all smells of a rat or a big mouse at least!:D

I suppose if we see an ad pop up in the local papers for help wanted to remove and replace shrink wrap, we'll know...lol
