Disney's ABC Family buyout seems dysfunctional so far (http://www.palmbeachpost.com/accent/content/auto/epaper/editions/thursday/accent_f3dce17563cd417c003b.html) - Palm Beach Post, 12/4/03

QuikQuote: It's no secret that ABC Family Channel, acquired by the Walt Disney Co. two years ago for a whopping $5.2 billion, is in trouble. Ratings are down, ad revenue is off and no breakout hits are on the horizon.
Its average prime-time audience, for example, is only 742,000 viewers, according to Nielsen Media Research -- a 10 percent drop from last season and a 30 percent dip from when Disney bought the channel.

I could never figure out what was supposed to be particularly "family" about the channel.

Good grief, why don't they turn it into the Disney Classics Channel and show all the Disney library stuff they refuse to put on Disney Channel?

It would even flow into the mandated 700 Club block okay.

I'd like that too. Much better than "So Little Time" and "Step by Step" reruns. But if it happens at all, it'll be after the dust settles.

I'm more worried about whether the Walt Disney Treasures DVDs will continue. Wave 3 has been pushed back to May, leaving plenty of time to censor, alter, or cancel altogether.
