View Full Version : Eisner has to be Sick in the Head
jerhow 12-02-2003, 12:49 PM For a person like Eisner, continuing to run Disney has nothing to do with money - it has to do with ego and power.
Any logical sane human being, if they were in Eisner's position, would say to themselves, "Hey, I'm worth over $600 million, I'm 61 years old - I think it's time I enjoy my life! So you stockholders can kiss my hairy butt - I'm outta here. Call me on my island if you need me."
So the fact that a man would continue to endure constant stockholder assaults and attacks against his integrity and ability to run a company when he has no real incentive to proves just how wrong in the head this guy is.
It's just thoroughly unfathomable that this man could be so out of touch with the bread and butter of what makes Disney "Disney" - namely the theme parks and animation. How he can purchase Fox Family Channel for hundreds upon hundreds of millions of dollars yet demands budget trims on new attractions at his theme parks is borderline immoral.
Truthfully, Eisner is not the person who resurrected Disney from the dark ages before 1984. The two people (besides Frank Wells) who we should be thanking are Steve Jobs and George Lucas. Without Pixar, Disney animation would have FAILED. Without Lucas, two of the most popular and innovative attractions (Star Tours, Indiana Jones) would never have been built. Without Pixar and without Lucas, where would Disney be right now? Yet Eisner has alienated both of these saviors to the point where both refuse to work with him.
This is a sick man who, like a tyrant, will always continue to enforce his reign of power and who will never willingly leave the empire he feels he has created. Sad. Very, very sad.
innerSpaceman 12-02-2003, 01:16 PM He is being honored by some prestigious organization (sorry I forget the name) on December 4 right here in Century City where I work. [edited by moderator]
If I have to tell him that it's Walt's birthday, the experience will be even more pleasurable.
(Disclaimer: I am not really going to kill Michael Eisner this week. I just want to really bad.)
mousketeer 12-02-2003, 01:17 PM For anyone familiar with Kirk Kirkorian's 1970 takeover of Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, you will see similar parallells with Eisner in 1984. Kirkorian sweeps the stagnant management of this ailing company with the forward thinking, fast-action plan. But in reality, Kirkorian's ambitious plans never surfaced, and MGM quickly became a shell of its former self. MGM began producing only three to five low budget films a year, sold off its vast historic backlot, and eventially became nothing more than an financial backer of movies in a mundane office building. So much for the glorious past?
For anyone interested in further reading on the MGM fiasco, and corporate greed at its worst, I reccomend "The Lion's Roar: The Calamtuous Final Days of MGM". The author should write a follow up, "The Mouse's Squeal: The Calamtuous Final Days of the Walt Disney Comany."

Aaaaw. You get my hopes all up and then add this disclaimer? Blah! :(
;)
Cadaverous Pallor 12-02-2003, 01:49 PM I agree. He's a power-mad lunatic.
I do take issue with this one line, however:

Dear "innerSpaceman,"
You are truly one sorry dumb <word deleted> for posting the above on the net (and no, your disclaimer doesn't help).
I could give you a long list of the damage such insane statements could do to this board and to those who care about Disney's heritage, but I won't bother to waste logic trying to cut through your redlined testosterone levels.
Instead, may I appeal to the moderators, who appear to be asleep at the switch, to quickly delete your message (and mine, for its attention-getting language), and in the future to insure that MousePad is a forum where death threats -- veiled, disclaimed or otherwise -- are not allowed?
And for anyone who thinks I'm supporting Eisner, don't even go there.
MOD NOTE: DO NOT SELF-CENSOR, DO NOT USE CENSORED WORDS, THEY'RE CENSORED FOR A REASON. DO NOT ATTACK OTHER MEMBERS. AND DO NOT DEPEND ON ME OR ANY OTHER MODERATOR TO DELETE YOUR MESSAGE. WE DON'T DO THAT HERE. ADRIENNE K
jerhow 12-02-2003, 02:20 PM Innserspaceman's comments, indeed, are VERY inappropriate. As much as I disagree with Eisner's business practices, I by no means feel any harm should ever come to him or anyone for that matter.
The reality is that U.S. troops are dying in Iraq to defend our way of life, and we're posting on message boards about how there aren't enough new E-Tickets at Disneyland. We're very fortunate to live in a country where we can have the luxury to debate over a business whose sole purpose is to allow us to escape from reality.
But clearly a person like Innerspaceman truly doesn't understand the goings on of the world, and ignorant people such as himself should really think before they speak.
mystycalchyk 12-02-2003, 02:24 PM whoa, so much for a family friendly board.
language language gentlemen
Mr. Wiggins 12-02-2003, 02:27 PM This thread should be deleted and innerSpaceman should be banned from this board before the press gets wind of his post... much less WDC legal.
Wake up, Mods!

I stand corrected about my statement. Certainly since Lion King, however, with the exception of the Pixar movies, Disney's animation success has been sporadic at best. Pixar's involvement with the company has gotten Disney through the 90's with guaranteed hits.

Threads aren't deleted on this board. If you have an issue with a post, I would suggest using the "Report this post to a moderator" link located at the bottom right of every post.
I would like Eisner to leave Disney, but I highly doubt he will do so voluntarily since he is being paid quite well. I don't think he should be killed. He did do good things for the company in the 80s.

SacTown Chronic 12-02-2003, 02:42 PM Dear Mr. Wiggins,
I have to tell you that I find your post to be the offensive one not innerSpaceman's. He was just venting a bit and pointing out the beauty of Eisner dropping off on Mr. Disney's birthday (I see the beauty, I see it real well.). It is obvious that his comments should have been taken with a grain of salt.
This was not a death threat directed toward Michael Eisner - he does not participate on MousePad (if he did maybe he wouldn't suck so much). In fact, I would venture to say that Michael Eisner will never see innerSpaceman's post and will remain oblivious to the whole thing.
You on the other hand, have called a man dumb. A man who will surely read your post.
I wouldn't mind seeing this "long list of the damage such insane statements could do to this board and to those that care about Disney's heritage". I'm not sure how some idle chatter on an internet message board will damage those that care about Disney's heritage. The only thing I do know is that if Eisner CARED about Disney's heritage, we wouldn't even be having this discussion in the first place.

I agree IsM went over the line.
And SacTown, are people's sensiblities that delicate that they can't be called dumb when they do something that is such?
innerSpaceman 12-02-2003, 02:48 PM I invite the mods to direct me to the community policies which prohibit homocidal fantasies being discussed. I have searched through the community policies, and I find no such prohibition. Curiously, I do not even find a prohibition on actual death threats, though I am reasonably certain that would not be tolerable here.
But just to clear things up again (which my Disclaimer was intended to do, and in fact did - since that is the express purpose of it) - - I am NOT threatening to assassinate Mr. Eisner. I am simply entertaining a fantasy about shooting him dead on Walt's birthday, with no intention to harm so much as a fly, much less a human being (debatable as his inclusion in the latter category might be).
Mr. Wiggins 12-02-2003, 02:54 PM I'm astonished you guys are blowing this off so lightly.
Do you care about the credibility of Disney fandom in general? MousePlanet in particular?
Then don't joke about assassinating CEO's -- or anybody else.
"He doesn't read this stuff...?" "There are no rules against it?" You've got to be kidding -- or fantastically naive!
Disneyphile 12-02-2003, 02:57 PM Wow. The situation in Iraq has already been brought to this thread. I'm betting the "Nazi" or "Hitler" thing will introduce itself within the next 5 posts.....
*starts popping some popcorn, and waits for the feature presentation*
blusilva 12-02-2003, 03:13 PM I say we just invoke Godwin's Law now and get it overwith.
Or was that an intentional trigger? Cuz then it don't count. :)
Wow, this thread almost makes me tempted to peek into a.d.d.
Almost, but not quite.

Understood.
Adrienne, please clarify MousePlanet's position on innerSpaceman's original post in this thread.
Thanks.
Morrigoon 12-02-2003, 03:14 PM I'm seriously falling off my chair with laughter here folks!
Hitler and Nazi's and Godwin, oh my!

Yeah little did I know my original post would suddenly turn into as deep of a discussion as it's turned into. Of course, I admit I brought in the Iraq concept to the discussion ;)
And for the same reason why I say I disagree withg Eisner's practices but would not want to see harm come to him, I also say that I can call Eisner a tyrant but would NEVER presume to link him with someone as immoral as Hitler.
Oh wait, I forgot about California Adventure.

adriennek 12-02-2003, 03:24 PM From our Community Policies:
You agree, through your use of this service, that you will not use this message board to post any material that is knowingly false and/or defamatory, libelous, abusive, vulgar, hateful, harassing, obscene, profane, threatening
As far as I'm concerned, more than one person on this thread has done this. This will stop. You may attack the message. You may say, "I think this message is really appropriate". You may not attack the messenger. More information is here (http://mousepad.mouseplanet.com/showthread.php?threadid=7983) on this thread.
Members may not use vulgar language on ths board. This is not a new policy:
From our FAQ forum (http://mousepad.mouseplanet.com/showthread.php?threadid=7985)-
If you purposefully try to circumvent the automatic word censor dictionary at MousePad by replacing certain characters (for example, using the $ dollar sign to replace the letter S), you may find that a moderator has gone ahead and substituted your word with * asterisks anyway.
This is because we do not let posters spell creatively those words we don't normally allow. If a word is on our censored-word list, it is there for a reason.
As others have said, we do not delete messages nor forums on this board. We do this because we allow people's words and actions to speak for themselves. If you don't want the world to know that you said it or did it, don't do it.
If you have a problem with a poster, as other members have advised, you may use the "Report this post" link on every post. We don't moderate members for reporting posts. We do moderate for posting objectionable replies. More information here. (http://mousepad.mouseplanet.com/showthread.php?threadid=7981)
I will again clarify: I don't care if anyone disagrees with innerSpaceman's message. I disagree with it! But do so without violating the community policies that all of our members agreed to.
Edited to add: I have no official position on fantasy death threats at this time.
Adrienne K

It's the dinner for the Will Rogers Motion Picture Pioneers Foundation's Pioneer of the Year. (Dinner benefits the Motion Picture Pioneers Assistance Fund, owned and operated by the Will Rogers Motion Picture Pioneers, and provides financial assistance to film industry veterans in need.) I've thought about crashing and/or stalking the event, but that's cause I want to see the person performing at the event. But, instead of walking over to the hotel, I'm going home. sigh.
