Just a thought - some of these smileys don't capture the thought of the moment, like in a discussion of the fireworks - When describing BIHM you really need an amalgam of  and :D with animated popping eyes and the big grin for that, as in "I can't believe what I'm seeing, but I'm loving every second of it..."

Or the Blushing Smiley for "I can't believe they just said that..."

And so on, and soforth... If I find them, can I use the old 'it followed me home, can I keep it?'

Tongue in cheek. Yeah. That's what I need. A Tongue in Cheek smilie.

Or, maybe a Foot in Mouth smilie would be better.;)

I'm just messing.

We had this discussion a short while ago and did some smilie rearrangement but, sadly, we're at our maximum smilie capicity.

You may inline images to which you own the copyright, and no more than one per thread, as described in the inline image policy (http://mousepad.mouseplanet.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=10101). "Outside" smilies fall under this rule as well.

What about those ones that come with "smile programs"?

I'm not sure what you mean, but if you mean clipart licensed for redistribution, then go ahead—but the one-per-thread rule still applies.

You may inline images to which you own the copyright Unless you wrote the smilie program, the image is licensed for redistribution, or you othewise own the copyright or have secured reproduction rights to the image you want to use, you may not use them.

Basically, if you use a smilie on our boards that is not part of our software, we are going to ask if you own or have the redistribution rights to it. If you don't, it will be deleted. Since that's so much work for everyone, we ask that you just stick to the ones we have.

If people feel it's time for another round of Smilie Survivor, we can take a poll to vote one of the existing 15 "off the island," and replace it with a new member-created one.

Just a small clarification: IF you are wishing to use a smilie drawn by someone else, who has provided you with explicit permission to use it, that is OK. That said, the permission has to be for use anywhere (many bulletin boards allow free use of their smilies, but not necessarily outside their own boards). If you fall into this category, you will need to be able to show the copyright release or permission text.

And as Andrew said, you are still limited to one inline image per thread.

On second though-why don't we all just keep to the ones we already have :fez: http://mousepad.mouseplanet.com/images/icons/icon14.gif

BTW, here are some smiley related threads from the past for ya:

Back when Ralph Wiggam created the first new ones (http://mousepad.mouseplanet.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=1653)

When the tongue was black, I posted this thread. (http://mousepad.mouseplanet.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=2416) (BTW since the color upgrade I now use that smiley appropriately. :D) Oh, and scroll down on that thread to see Bill Catherall's Mickey smilies! Too bad we can't use them, for fear of copyright infringement.
