Greetings

I am trying to prepare for my final in my Drawing class. I have 3 weeks to get this done. I want to do a piece in the vein of Mary Blair. I have done some research on her. So far I have read that she used gouache, but that is about it as far as her technique. I know there is a really good book, The Art and Flair of Mary Blair, but I can't get it in time for it to be of any use for this project. If anyone could provide any advice on her technique, I would be very much appreciative. I thought this would be the best place to ask!

Mary Blair's technique tended to be thought of as a "primitive" style as she did not draw using the typical Disney "illusion of life" style, but her designs were always imbued with whimsy and warmth. She was a master at the selection and combination of colors in her art. In her non-Disney work, she often created art having to do with family and children.

However, I think your best bet is to visit the website created and maintained by her family as a tribute to her. The quotes and examples of her art will say it better than I ever could.

Also, if you look up her listing at www.imdb.com, you'll see all the animated movies and projects she contributed to; this should help you get a handle on what her style was like.
