View Full Version : Universal Studios too?
allisonwonderland 11-25-2003, 03:41 PM since we may be going to wdw for a couple of days(MY choice)nad my husband wants to go to Universal..we thought maybe we could comprimise and do 2 days at WDW and one at Universal. Is it do-able in one day? There are no sights(that I could find) that are as good as this om Univerasal.Any reccomendations? He wants to go for the "thrill rides"...but the hotels(ONLY 3)that were on their website were more that WDW!!! But thet did have good deals on tix..........help!
cirquelover 11-25-2003, 05:08 PM We did Universal for one day this last trip, but we did no thrill rides except Men in Black twice. We went to the Studio not Island of Adventure and we did the whole park, some rides twice, and were done by 2pm. They have a two park pass that we could have upgraded to for an extra 35 bucks. The guy at the ticket office kind of expected us to be done early and add the other park. Instead we went to see Brother Bear at the theater at City Walk.
Wfoxx 11-25-2003, 09:11 PM We would recommend that you stay at WDW and drive to Universal. If you want to do thrill rides you need to go to Island of Adventure instead of the studios. Spiderman you definfitly don't want to miss and the incredible hulk coaster is awesome. You can do it in 1 day. Have fun.:)
kjsmom 11-26-2003, 07:41 PM My family loves Universal Islands of Adventure! Definately doable in a day, it's not an overly large park. We always get the 3 day passes from AAA for around $80-$90 which allow you to go to both Islands of Adventure and the Studios too. We mix up our week in Orlando at Disney World and Universal Studios and have a blast!

Iceman 11-29-2003, 02:36 PM Given that short amount of time, I would recommend staying at Disney. You're going to waste at least an hour driving, parking, walking, etc. each way to and from Universal. With the Tower of Terror, Rock 'n' Roller Coaster, and Mission: SPACE Disney now has three of the best thrill rides anywhere so your husband will get his fix. Each of the Universal parks can be completely done in a half day, so if you really wanted to you could get up early one day and bang them both out, but I still think your time (and money) would be better spent at Disney.
Islands of Adventure is awesome. Hulk is a terrific rollercoaster ride, better than RockNRollercoaster, and that is saying something. Spiderman is THE best simulator ride anywhere. The theming over at Lost Continent is terrific - what you might have expected at Animal Kingdom from the original concepts.
I live next door to WDW, and drive next to the entrance of Universal Studios every day when taking my son to his special school. I think I've died and gone to park-enthusiast-heaven!
Tink's Hairdresser 11-29-2003, 09:10 PM A great site for Islands of Adventure is www.ioacentral.com
StormShadow 11-30-2003, 12:52 AM Teri, you kinda live IN WDW.
allisonwonderland 12-03-2003, 03:07 PM hey..thanks for the tip on the IOA site..very helpful,,not as good as this one...but will still help me out.I was surfing like mad trying to find a board for universal..thanks again!!
Ellester 12-03-2003, 05:50 PM I'll stick my $.02 in as well. I don't know what time of the year you are planning on going, but we have been to IoA twice. The first time was in Oct. the second in May. Neither time was particularly crowded. The first time is was just DH and me, we were strictly on a thrill ride mission. Hulk is awesome, as is Spiderman (ride Spidy first, it gets the longest wait times). Riding the front of the Dueling Dragons is something not to be missed. Awesome coasters! I personally really like Ripsaw Falls and Bildge Rat Barges too. The first time we were totally done by 2pm (getting there at 9am), we rode a few things again but left by about 4pm. Last May we went with my mom and our two dd's (5 and 2) so we were slowed down a bit. We still rode everything at least once, spent time at the kids area (Me Ship Olive) and were out by 6pm. I guess what I'm saying is that IoA is definitely a one day park in my book. I have not been to the Studios part. That said, I'll take Disney any day over Universal. But, the coasters really don't compare. IoA wins that one hands down. Have fun!
Oh, that reminds me... the water rides at IoA get you SOAKED to the skin. We aren't talking about a bit of splash and dampness here. You do have to wear shoes on water rides in all the parks, so be prepared.
I agree about Dueling Dragons - awesome ride.
Photographer 12-04-2003, 10:02 AM I just went to Island of Adventure (Nov. 29) and it wasn't packed but it was busy. I didn't do any coasters so I was able to make it thru the park in 7.5 hours. If you ride Ripsaw Falls, a log ride, keep in mind you WILL get SOAKED, as in bring shampoo and soap cuz you might as well bathe while you're on it. They have water cannons that people pay to use. They stand on a bridge and fire at you using cannons right next to your log as you pass by.
Poseidon's Fury was lame in my opinion. Spiderman was awesome, don't miss it. You'll need a kid of about 4-8 yrs old to ride Pteranodon Flyers. They claim this is a kid's ride. Personally I found a family with kids and asked to tag along. :D
spectromen 12-10-2003, 03:41 PM You mean Pteranadon Flyers was open? I thought it had been down all summer with little talk of it reopening at all or something.
kjsmom 12-11-2003, 06:24 PM Yep! Pteranadon Flyers was open when we were there the 13th of October :D ! My husband and daughter waited in line for like 45 minutes for a 20 second ride. I swear that has to be the shortest ride in the world! It was a neat short ride, though according to my husband. (this ride was not open a year ago when we were at the park)
