This virus alert is only about four hours old as of 8:30 p.m. Pacific time. Symantec already has a fix. You can get it here (http://www.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/w32.paylap@mm.html).

Note: This is a Level 2 virus (they are graded to level 4, and all viruses start at level 1).

It affects Windows 2000, Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows Me, Windows NT, Windows XP.

It does not affect DOS, Linux, Macintosh, OS/2, UNIX, Windows 3.x.

The email with the virus starts with the following:The email will arrive as follows:

Subject: YOUR PAYPAL.COM ACCOUNT EXPIRES
Attachment: paypal.asp.scr
Message:

Dear PayPal member,

PayPal would like to inform you about some important information regarding your PayPal account. This account, which is associated with the email address

<address>

will be expiring within five business days. We apologize for any inconvenience that this may cause, but this is occurring because all of our customers are required to update their account settings with their personal information....

Do NOT open the attachment. Go to the URL link I provided for more details.

I've gotten that email a few times at my work email address over the past couple days. Seeing as how I don't HAVE a paypal account, the fact that it was going to be expiring didn't concern me, so I just deleted the messages...
