Napsto 04-30-2001, 10:44 PM how do you do avatar's?????? i want to do one but am unsure. Lani 04-30-2001, 11:42 PM How to create / add your own Avatar
Create or find a small graphic you wish to use. It cannot be larger than 150 pixels by 150 pixels. If it is a photograph, you should own its copyright, or have permission to use it. At the top of your MousePad screen, find the button labeled "profile" and click on it. Your user control panel screen appears. Click on "edit options." Your Edit Option screen appears. Scroll to the bottom of the page until you see the option for Avatar. Click on the "Change Avatar" button to add or change your Avatar, or click on "More info..." to learn more about Avatars. If you click on "Change Avatar," the Edit Profiles - Avatars screen appears. Click on "Yes" to use an Avatar. Enter the exact URL where your graphic file resides, including the *.gif or *.jpg portion of the URL. You may also upload a graphic from your computer by clicking on the "Upload" button. Click "Submit Modifications" when you are done.
Anyone who has trouble viewing people's Avatars may be behind a strong corporate firewall that does not allow the viewing of Avatars. Hope that helps. lisap 05-01-2001, 07:48 AM so what is the rule about using DL trademarked images? Is there a rule (or should I say law?) Napsto 05-01-2001, 01:46 PM thanks lani! dgthx 05-01-2001, 08:04 PM My image is under 150X150. I went through all the instructions. After I upload and submit the modifications, it takes me back to the user control panel, but I don't see me avatar on my posts. I can see other people's avatars, but not my own. Why? Alex S. 05-02-2001, 09:29 PM Originally posted by lisap so what is the rule about using DL trademarked images? Is there a rule (or should I say law?) This is a good question and one we've been debating. The appropriate line from the User Agreement reads: "You agree not to post any copyrighted material unless the copyright is owned by you or by this message board. You agree to abide by the wishes of the board moderators in interpreting and enforcing these rules." So, as you can see, it isn't just Disney copyrights that we want to protect but everyone else's as well. We know that enforcement of copyright varies from place to place but as none of us are lawyers we've decided to make a reasonably strict interpretation of the rules on this. While we've been debating this behind the scenes a few avatars have popped up that leave us concerned. The members will be receiving an email shortly requesting that they either change avatars or show ownership (or permission of use) of the image. The moderators thank everybody for the cooperation on this. Alex Stroup dgthx 05-03-2001, 05:45 PM never mind I got it. :) Lani 05-03-2001, 06:56 PM Oooooooo dgthx -- nice Avatar! Nice statue, too. No I am not an Irish rock star. :) Napsto 07-16-2001, 03:35 PM what does avatar mean> Mr D 07-16-2001, 09:00 PM Actually it must be LESS than 150x150 pixels, if its at 150 in either direction its rejected, BTW is mine OK?:) CaliforniaCrazy 07-18-2001, 12:51 AM I have always wondered if my avatar is okay, too? I got if off the Disneyland Resort website, but I hope I don't have to remove it because I like it so much. If I have to, I will. Andrew 07-21-2001, 11:51 PM If you got it from the Disney website, it is most likely owned (and copyrighted) by Disney. Please, only use avatar images you know to be non-copyrighted or that you own. CaliforniaCrazy 07-22-2001, 05:28 PM I guess I will remove it because I know it is probably copyrighted, and I don't want a Disney executive breathing down my neck (you know how they are.) ;) Rok 07-27-2001, 09:48 PM Originally posted by Napsto what does avatar mean> Napsto, I found this pretty good definition for you. I remember hearing this term probably about 15 years ago in the first Ultima games. "In cyberspace, an avatar is an instatiation of your body in the computerized medium. In text-based virtual realities, such as MUDs, your avatar consists of a short description which is displayed to other users who have their avatars 'look' at you. In graphical virtual realities, an avatar is a three-dimensional construct representing your point of being in relation to the rest of the virtual world" The word avatar comes from the Hindu faith to describe the earthly manifestation of the god Vishnu on earth |
