MonorailMan 10-16-2003, 09:43 PM iTunes is now avaible for Windows! I've been messing around with it, and really like it, check it out at:
http://www.apple.com/itunes/
This is good if you don't like MusicMatch, but want an easy way to transer your favorite tunes! :) :D
DisneyFan25863 10-16-2003, 09:49 PM Finally! :does dance of excitement:
HB Tigger Fan 10-16-2003, 11:11 PM WOOHOO!!!!!!!!! I just downloaded it! It looks just like the Apple version. YAY!!!!!!!! I am SO HAPPY! The only thing that was enticing me to buy an Apple was iTunes, and now it's available for Windows! YAY!!!!!!!!!!!
And my friends who are apple :geek:s didn't believe me that an iTunes for Windows was coming out. HA!
YAY!!!!!!!!!
SzczerbiakManiac 10-17-2003, 10:11 AM Has anyone actually used this yet (the Windows version)? I'm hearing reports that it's very sluggish, probably due to the non-native GUI.

iTunes is a RAM hog on any system and on my 350 mHz G4, it takes up about 20% of the CPU while playing. It's probably not a good choice for slower computers or those who want a bare bones mp3 player with a small CPU and memory footprint. And that's just the Macintosh version.
DisneyFan25863 10-17-2003, 07:24 PM Ok, I've fallen in love with just going around and listening to the previews! This Rocks!
Uncle Dick 10-17-2003, 08:28 PM For all you iPod owners out there, Apple has also released version 2.1 of its iPod software with support for two nifty new perpherals. The first (http://catalog.belkin.com/IWCatProductPage.process?Merchant_Id=&Section_Id=201526&pcount=&Product_Id=158384) is a microphone that allows audio to be recorded and stored on the device. The second (http://catalog.belkin.com/IWCatProductPage.process?Merchant_Id=&Section_Id=201526&pcount=&Product_Id=158350) is a media reader for those little picture-storing things inside digital camera which imports pictures directly into the iPod.
Both are rather pricey in my estimation, but they score very high on the "sheer coolness" meter.
HB Tigger Fan 10-17-2003, 08:33 PM I really wish they would release a driver that makes the older iPods compatible with both systems like the new ones are.
mrcoffee 10-19-2003, 09:48 AM Whadya mean 'both systems'? I have an older IPod, (actually it was a Mac Ipod), that I reformatted to work with Windows. Not a problem.
If you mean that an older Ipod can use 2. 0 firmware, I don't think that's going to happen.

HB Tigger Fan 10-19-2003, 11:06 PM I mean compatable on both systems, like the new ones are. I have an older iPod for Windows and my friend has an iBook. I would like to be able to plug my iPod into her iBook without frying anything.
I have been playing around with iTunes for a few nights now. It isn't any slower than WMP or Real, and it is a million times better than MusicMatch.
The only two reasons I was considering buying an Apple were 1) the iPod and 2) iTunes. Both are for Windows now and I no longer need to buy an Apple. YAY!
mrcoffee 10-20-2003, 01:30 PM You could install something like XPlay (http://www.mediafour.com/products/xplay/), and then reformat your Windows IPod into a Mac IPod, then you can use it on both.
Used to do it all the time with my wife's IBook and my PC. But now with ITunes, we just share the music that way. Much easier.

I have X-Play. I bought it when I couldn't deal with MusicMatch and there wasn't anything else. You can't use a Mac iPod on a PC, my friend and I looked into it. Now that iTunes is out I won't have to deal with it anymore, just wish they would make a patch to convert the older ones into a multi-platform system.
mrcoffee 10-21-2003, 04:10 PM Yes, you CAN use a Mac IPod on a PC with XPlay.. I (along with everyone that bought Xplay) used it for that. I even used it share music between my PC and my wife's IBook..
I just recently formatted my Mac IPod to Windows IPod, as I now use ITunes.
And XPlay just came out with a patch to let you use it between both systems. (Mac & Windows iTunes)
