Bringing wife, 6 yr old girl and 16 yr old boy on a Wednesday. Would appreciate thoughts on what to do first, what's inappropriate for the little one, etc. Is front of line pass necessary for mid-week visit in October? Any and all info welcome.

Get there for opening (just before 10 am). sit in row 38 on the Studio Tram Tour (right hand side if you don't mind a little water), then do the park from the lower lot forward

The Front of the Line pass isn't cheap, but at this time of year, you get some really good behind the scenes at Spiderman Rocks, Animal Planet Live, and Waterworld.
