I'll be in town next week for the Passions convention. Does anyone know of a good room that's pretty close to the park. I kinda wanted to avoid paying the $150 plus per night for the Sheraton or Hilton. I'm having trouble telling which is closer between Hollywood, Universal City, and Stuidio City. I'd like a nice place with nice rooms, good area, and a good nights sleep. What I'm trying to avoid is hotels like the $30 per night dumps that are located a couple blocks from Disneyland. I've stayed in these hotels and have been kept up late at night with children crying, paper thin walls, rodents, etc. Thanks, any help you guys can offer will be appreciated. I'll be sure to post a trip report of how the room was!

Beverly Garland's Holiday Inn 818-980-8000. Approx 1/2 mile from USH.

Holiday Inn Express 323-845-1600. Approx 1/2 mile from USH and only about 1 year old.

Sportsmen's Lodge Hotel 818-769-4700 Approx 4 miles from USH

Universal City Inn is found in the AAA book with a 2 diamond rating, but I would not stay here. THis is a motel that is overrun by prostitutes and drug users. I work in the area of all these hotels

Bev Garland is $120 sometimes $99 and is a little gem. The walls are concrete soundproof blocks.
We like it alot.

Just wanted to let you guys know how things turned out. We ended up settling with the Holiday Inn Express. It seems like the Beverly Garland and Sportsman were some we tried but were booked. What impressed me most about the Holiday was that all we had to do was drive down the road a few blocks, make a right turn, and we were right in the theme park parking lot. The rate we got was $105 per night. Our room had a microwave, fridge, good closet, clean bathroom, comfortable beds, etc. The elevator requires a room key so you get extra security, but you can't order pizza because of this and the hotel does not offer room service. Also, for some reason the pool closes at 6 pm. The first night, though the room was non-smoking, it still smelled of smoke but you could tell they sprayed the room with something to eliminate the odor. By the first morning the smell was gone. We stayed 2 nights. I will definitely be back at this location primarily because of it's proximity to USH and citywalk. I would definitely recommend it. Although, during this next year I may sample a few other hotels.

Do these hotels offer a shuttle service to Universal Studios? I would like to go for a couple days and if we could get a taxi from the airport to the hotel and simply shuttle to Universal Studios I would be a happy camper.....I'm not real comfortable driving in the greater L.A. area. Thanks!
